ATF Fill Adapter - 722.9 vs 725

Can anyone confirm that the 7G and 9G use the same adapter for filling ATF?

Yes they use the same adapter for filling. Keep in mind that the 725 is checked at a different operating temp than the 722.9.

Plot thickens...

I found two WIS tech sheets for refilling the 725.

One is pre 2015 and the other is for post 2015 chassis.

For post 2015, for my 2016 SLK, it's two tools. An adapter for draining and selecting the position of the filler thingamajig. There are three positions: fill, check level and empty pan. There is a second tool(adapter) for filling once you switch the pan to the fill position.

For pre 2015, simpler and closer to the 7G but you still need the filling adapter that you would then attach(screw on) the adapter on your pressurized filler.

Im not aware that the slk has the 725, but I could be wrong. They are rolling those out with the new models slowly. Anyhow, the 722.9 and 725.xx transmission fluid level check and fill are completely different. They also use different fluids. Gold for 725, blue for 722.9. If you have a 725 the only difference between chassis is temperature at which you set the adapter to number '3' position to check the level. Either transmission will use the same filling adapter to pump the fluid in. The difference is that the 725 uses the new adapter to undo the cover plug, and switch between 1,2,3,4 positions. That adapater kit is like $15, so its not anything that will break the bank.

Thanks Tommi.

As you pointed out, it's the same adapter 725 589 00 90 00 for the two versions of the 725.

The assembly tool, 725 589 02 90 00, for the new 725's, which I have in my 2016 SLK300 (manufacture date - 12/15).

I ordered both. When I replaced the oil cooler, I poured out the fluid, measured it out and pumped in the amount via the oil cooler return line near the thermostat at the front radiator. Still plan to add 1/2 liter in using the fill plug in the pan and then adjust.

do you have your vin, or chassis code, 172.xxx? everything Im seeing for the 172 is still a 722.9 trans, even the amg.

so if Im understanding your question,to answer it.... for your transmission you will need both part numbers which includes 3 tools, to check and fill the transmission fluid. You will ALSO still need the adapter that was used to fill the 722.9, thats gonna screw onto the 725 589 00 90 00 part number.
