Asked for VMI info and the guy was a dick?
So I was doing research on a E550 I found and called my local Mercedes dealership to see if i could get any service history on the car. The service writer was a total dick and said that unless I purchased the car he could not provide any info on the vehicle ? He said they are cracking down on giving out "personal info "about vehicles? I said I dont want personal info I just want to check and see if the car has a decent service history ...he hung up...wtf? This has never happened to me. I own 2 other mercedes and I did the same thing before purchasing those with no issues. Was this guy having a bad day or what?
Never the less I just called another dealership lied and said I just purchased the car a few hours ago and got the info I wanted ...its not rocket science.

I asked for VMI info, or any other service history they could provide, on a car I DO own. Service writer told me they don't release that info "for liability reasons". Totally uncooperative.

If you have access to the car, and access to Xentry, you can pull the service history from the Central Gateway.

I let the dealership handle all warranty work and recalls, when they claim I need other services I have them do a full estimate then I leave and either do the work my self or have my personal mechanic complete the work but that has only happened one time because the other times the work was not necessary. It was almost like they were creating work solely to generate income?....Like I said I will call endless dealerships and tailor my lies to get what i want concerning VMI's and I wont pay **** for it........just saying.

I didn’t think MB dealers could see any work done elsewhere in the MB dealer network besides warranty/recalls. At least that's what I was told several times by various dealers. Maybe in the US it's different than Canada. I had to track down the dealers where work was done to get any info, and then I was given the privacy speech for non warranty/recall work. Some were much more helpful than others. I've had better luck with service managers. Advisors were really hit and miss.
