I want to coast! Early W212 cruise control braking delete
EDIT:
My car does NOT have adaptive or distronic cruise. It has only speed control. I know how to press the brake or lever to operate the cruise control. I wish there were settings in the menu but none are here on the early w212 basic cruise control.

I have searched and search but can’t find an answer to this since most everyone is on to adaptive radar camera cruise in later cars.
thanks in advance!

and you can also not use Distronic or use the hand control when you want it to activate brakes or brake yourself is also effective
✌️
It's speed control. The car intervenes if the vehicle speed exceeds, or falls short of, set speed.
I deactivated cruise control on descents, adjusted speed with paddle shifting, and re-engaged cruise control when conditions warranted it.

For downhill coasting use the hand stalk to turn off, then toggle back On... that's what it's for.
When you don't want speed control, you simply turn it Off.

So as a result I don't use cruise control as often, or I turn it Off downhills, or I downshift, but I'd much rather this stupid feature was Off so I don't have plan and think about it multiple times per drive.
Another that really bugs me is if I floor it, and forget to turn it Off while on the gas. I really don't want to deal with yet another bs safety feature at that moment, or worse, have the brakes come on.
It's in there somewhere, the question is where.
- Don't touch the cruise control stalk/button. In other words, don't turn it on!
- Let someone else drive.
- Move to the where there are no hills.

ESP9_212.cbf is a file you can use with Vediamo that *may* allow you to change this. It has an option named Maximale_negative_Beschleunigung_bei_Komfortbremse , which translates to "Maximum negative acceleration for comfort brake". There is the option to change this to 0. Unfortunately, I believe a higher access level to this module is required (I brute forced the seed key request function, it appears the levels for this module seem to be 0x01, 0x03, 0x09), since I kept getting CAESAR: DiagManager: 06067: DiagService refused
None of the existing seed key generators on the internet seem to be able to generate a key for this module. Maybe one day if I'm board, I look into brute forcing it. If it's a 2 byte key, that's approaching brute force-able territory depending on the throughput through Vediamo.

I've been meaning ask BenzNinja about this but it appears I'm too lazy.
Or, if you get the BenzNinja membership I'd assume you'd have access to the seed key you need? I have said key gen but haven't played with it.
Red; play nice :p
There are functions in Vediamo for this module that suggests if it were possible, it would be in this module:
DT_CAN_Codierdaten_Braking_Cruise_Control_aktuell
DT_CAN_Codierdaten_Braking_Cruise_Control_gespeich ert
These functions retrieve whether this is a code active vs stored for braking cruise control.
But alas, it doesn't seem possible via variant coding, at least not without editing memory directly (the same way eg IC_204 fuel volume shown in the dash is done I believe). And knowing what memory to edit, probably involves reverse engineering the firmware to figure that out too. Maybe a starting place of those variant codings for that option that map 0.5, 1, 1.5 ... 9.0, 9.5m/s^2 to hex values. This could give you a set of hex values to search for, assuming the limit is in the firmware and encoded the same way this variant coding piece is encoded. But it's almost guaranteed you will have many more results than you know what to do with here.
Thank you for going through all that trouble, and sharing the results.
I have one outside the box semi-fix. If I adjust the cams so on decel the Int and Exh go full advance, it will eng brake substantially better than stock. One problem is there isn't a lot of eng braking at low rpm so if the hill is a bit steep-ish the brakes will sometimes still come on. It does drastically reduce how often they come on, but not a fix.
A side effect is the cams are quite a bit off from normal and when you gas it like that I believe it's dumping ex gas into the intake so power is low for a split sec until it recovers. I drive by feel so I gas it until it responds, but when the cams move back to normal I suddenly have too much power and the car jumps. I specifically notice in stop n go freeway traffic because I put it in 1st or 2nd and just eng brake the whole time, but I also gas it quick when the car in front goes so some JA doesn't slide in front of me. Otherwise it's not really a big deal but you'd just have to test it yourself, which I only mention since you seem like a tinkerer and just may be interested.
I can adj less adv and this issue is less obvious, but it seems I lose about twice the eng braking vs the improvement. So right now I have adv set about half way between oem and full adv and I net maybe 25% of the eng braking I had. I use HP Tuners to adj it, which make it super easy to do.
