Hey guys. So I swapped the camera/trunk lid handle today. My other one the camera lid is broken and finally irked me enough with grime and rain.
Anyway, the lid works on the swap but the camera doesn't. I started thinking and did a scan. Do I have to reprogram the cAmera serial # to my VIN ? That's ridiculous.
The camera lid works though. There is an active test on my scanner and it works. Also through command.
You think an independent shop can do it easily? Reprogram
Good question. I would think not, but apparently B220600 says differently. I am in the process of replacing the camera in my C350 because it is offset from the center of the car and I end up driving over my yard. So, I found a camera that is integrated into the trunk release and fits perfectly. I now need to wait until the weather gets better to hook it up. So, I’d like to know as well if it needs to be programmed to the car.

The new camera needs to be coded and calibrate with your car options/dimensions and VIN, if the old camera can't be used with the new lid.

This is how the new camera fits where the old trunk release was. I will leave the old camera in place, but just disconnected. There really is not reason to remove it. I did reach out to BenzNinja who confirmed that a new camera will need to be coded/initialized. When I am ready, I will have him code it for me.
My car happens to be a W204.

I was trying to remove the new camera, but putting it back into the plastic tabs is a bit tricky. There's tabs on the lid that open and close with the movement of the camera.
I'm going to call and see what they will charge for a reprogram.

I can get the camera out but can't get it back into the new housing with the lid. Can't get it to line up with the tabs on the lid. My old housing the lid is completely broken off

All camera cover mechanism from w205 /w222 is the same and if your mechanism is the one that fits on w205, the original camera should fit, try again
