2003 Mercedes SL55 AMG Supercharged. Black exterior, black interior. 40,600 miles. CLEAN CARFAX in hand. Main dealer MB service records. Folding Hard Top, Panoramic roof (Glass roof). Heated seats, Ventilated/Cooled seats. Massage seats. Electrically adjustable seat side bolsters. Navigation, IPOD AUX input. 493 hp, 516 ft/lb torque supercharged V8 - one of the best exhaust notes available even at idle! Extremely linear and strong power delivery. 3-mode automatic gearbox, Summer, Winter (starts in 2nd gear) and Manual (uses paddle shifters on back of steering wheel). Mercedes ABC (Active Body Control for 'flat' cornering). Extremely comfortable seats. Alcantara headlining and on multiple surfaces inside - the other areas are mainly stitched leather or wood. Perfect combination of style, class, summer motoring and performance should the mood require it! New MSRP over $120k, incredible value for this low mileage supercar. Very nice inside and out. Everything works perfectly, CLEAN CARFAX in hand. Best color combination, you will not be disappointed! Next service not due for over 6,000 miles. Genuine reason for sale.

Sorry, not sure how to upload my images, but the car is on autotrader with several images and can be seen here:

Pics

I have added some pics, but more are available through the Autotrader link.

As a newbie, am I close to being in the right price range at a little under $38k? I don't want to waste anyone's time or mine by not pricing properly.

Thanks in advance.

My opinion, real money is around $32k..
Check with tradein.autotrader.com, Nadaguides.com, edmunds.com, kbb, etc...there are a ton of them. One problem with an 03 is that most banks will not finance, and if they do it won't go over 36 months...

Does the car have keyless go/pushbutton start on the shifter? How long have you owned it? 2nd/3rd owner? Clean/clear title?

Thanks for the feedback. No it doesn't have keyless go - all the options are listed in my original post. I can see your point on the trade-in, I have it advertised locally as a private sale, and I based the price on the others I had seen advertised. I guess the value is what someone is willing to pay, and I'll discover that when it sells. If i priced it at $32k I would have thought someone would wonder what's wrong with it as it's priced so much less than the others on autotrader or ebay.

Thanks for the input though.

GT40MkI,

You are wrong dude. You are quoting wholesale numbers on 03 SL55's

I have access to the manheim auctions site and 03's SL55's with 40k miles are going for 31-33k. The dealer then needs to pay $500 to the auction house.

The real number is around 35-36k retail for a no accident clean carfax car.

I'm sick of low ballers trying to us NADA and Blue book numbers to steal these cars and take advantage of people not in the know.

Nada and Kelly mean squat on rare cars like these.

He still has it. The http://tradein.autotrader.com number is an actual cash number you can take to a participating dealer and pickup a draft for...none of the other numbers are backed by cash.

Retail is one thing, wholesale is another. When someone asks what a vehicle is worth, it's so subjective you can easily have a $5-10k spread.

To the right buyer, it may be worth $50k....but realistically, for an 03, the money is $32-34k. If OP has had it listed for $38k for a month with very few leads, he's wasting his time. Autotrader should show you how many people have "looked" at your ad...if there is a big discrepancy in looks versus activity you know you're off the number.

Best of luck selling it-if it was a keyless go car I'd be a player for it...unfortunately thats a dealbreaker for me, but it does look like a gorgeous example.

Even Manheim numbers are regional, and POWELL, OH 43065 is not South Florida. You're in the export capital of the world and a black black euro car is worth a few grand more there regardless of options (or title branding/condition)...

Edmunds.com is probably the best retail pricing guide you'll find.

Put it on Craigslist and eBay. They sell cars and are free (eBay only charges if someone buys it).

I'll just point out that convertibles sell better in summer, so you need to bear that in mind when deciding how long to wait and what to accept.

Great looking car.

Thanks for the comments guys - all is valuable info to me. I just reduced the car to $36,500 based on the end of Summer, but offset by it being a genuine quality folding hard-top. Looking at the local private sale market, it still looks cheap in comparison, but again, those other cars have not sold, so it depends on what someone is willing to pay.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
Couple things.....

Yes, things are worth what people will pay for them. Yes, it's a lot of car, but it is 8 years old, with limited financing options. Don't tell me there are plenty of cash buyers. I'm not sure there is $35000 anywhere in North America. Those few who do have $35,000 real dollars have no interest in an 8 year old car. Additionally, all AMG cars are a bit scary out of warranty. You don't have one or an option for one. You'll sell it, but it may take a good long while. In the meanwhile, enjoy, a great ride.
One other thing--I may be wrong, but if my thinking is correct, the Keyless Go on 03's requires that stupid card. It's not like the later model cars. And that card is a pain to carry. I'd rather not have it.

The keyless go card is MUCH better than the key. You don't have to carry around a large key in your pocket all the time. Just the card in your wallet.

That way your guaranteed not to forget your wallet at home.

To each is own, but I would HATE to have to carry a key around.

It's all relative and so is the price.

What is it going to take?

Planning an international move and the car needs to go. Price has been reduced but still hasn't gone. If I take it to carmax, kbb says trade value $26k to $30k for a 41,600 mile car. What do you think it should be priced at for a fast private party sale. Car is in nice condition, representative of its age.
Thanks in advance.

Take it to Carmax, get their offer, and list for $1000.00 more than that.

a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay....that is a someone with cash in the bank or approved financing

ask what you think you deserve for the car but also let the buyers know that you would entertain offers. see what kind of response you get. if you don't get any response, then you know your number is too high. back off your price a little bit until you find a spot where you are getting real offers. then you can assess whats the most you are truly going to get in return for your vehicle.

This isn't always true. You will find people out there who have always dreamed of owning a stellar SL55 and have finally found one in their price ranges.

Is someone like that an everyday buyer? Absolutely, not. But that doesn't mean there aren't a few out there.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I still have the car but am getting some more interest now. Looks like the price is going to be around $32-$33k to sell at this time of year.

I wouldn't be too sure....

....it is a ton of car for the money, but again...unless someone has a goodly amount of disposable cash laying around, it's tough to make work.
There's someone out there, but it may take you a good long while to find him. Need to be prepared to sit during the winter. SL's have alwys been soft in the winter months. Good luck...
