While preparing to sell our 2005 E55 Estate, I ran across this thread and thought I'd give a quick preview to those in the market...
We are going to sell our 2005 E55 Estate in a month or so as I have my eye on a new toy. Going to take the E55 in for a full service and replace all 4 tires before offering it up as that is how the cars original owner turned it over to me and I am all about the "paying it forward" thing.
Color is Flint Grey on Charcoal. Totally stock, never modded and in BEAUTIFUL condition. 71k on the clock and always dealer serviced. Original owner replaced the E55 Wagon with a Porsche Panamara Turbo and I jumped at the chance to buy the E55. Totally trouble free car with all options... everything (except the manual shift buttons on back of steering wheel) works and it looks amazing. (Car is clean WAY beyond even the best Mercedes-Benz specimens) Not sure what I will be asking for the car as I have not had time to research it yet but it will be posted on Ebay in the not to distant future. Not in a hurry to sell the car so the timing of the sale will be more about my work schedule then anything. Let me see if I can attach some pics to this post... AH! Here you go...

PM me if you have any questions...

I came to the conclusion that with MB not offering my anything for a trade, and given that this vehicle handles beautifully and still goes like hell, I would just upgrade some of the tech and not give it up after only 90,000km (55,000 mi).
So last week the work was done; front & rear parking sensors, rear camera (COMAND display), bluetooth upgrading, Sirius installation, iPod/iPhone audio integration, a FULLY INTEGRATED Escort 9500ci (completely hidden radar/laser detector-jammer which has notifications that pop up on the speedo digital display) AND a FLIR (forward-looking infrared) camera for night vision (COMAND display).
Cost is about $13k CDN, might be a bit less in the USA without the cross border stuff.
Installation was seamless, and I'm delighted as hell. 200,000km here we come!

Great looking car, DuckNCover. I sent you a PM.
Like most of the interested parties here, I too am in the market for a W211 E55 or 63 Estate. Unlike most, I do want the 3rd row seating (it'll be replacing my large SUV, which came in handy shuttling friends around when I was on DD duty).
By the way, I know Autobahn is always ridiculous on their pricing, but does anyone think that they're about 10k over on their 63? Per Fasn8n's great registry, it seems as if two vehicles of similar vintage and mileage (<3k difference) came on the market within weeks of one another, but Autobahn (a dealer local to me) is asking 10k more. Clearly the bay area premium can't be that high? Anyone care to chime in?

I don't know where you're from but here in Canada I was getting offered 20k or less for my 2005 E55 from the dealers. Absolutely horrible for a vehicle that was 120k plus CDN 7 years ago. And of which there are only a handful in the country. Dealers cited it being "unusual" and "not in demand" blah blah blah. Even MB Canada replied when I admonished them about resale values, citing more imports from USA, etc. etc. The regional guy was supposed to call me - but never did. So I upgraded mine (see above) and will just keep what is now James Bond wagon indefinitely. Lusted after the E63 Estate (primarily based of the unbeatable growl of my '09 SL 63) but I'm over it now.

That 'premium' is totally subjective IMO. The dealer may have paid high for it. He prolly has to warranty it to the buyer too. I bet tho, someone buys it at close to that price.
It's nothing new, its just another used car to a dealer...but it's sad the the cars have depreciated so much so fast. Well, not so sad for the second and third owner enthusiasts.
I do think the extra premium these hold over a sedan is worth every penny. (really liking your charcoal with dark wood car Duckncover !!)

They're dealers, it's what they do.
They beat you up on the "value" of your car for any reason they can; low production (PFFT, No one wants a E55 WAGON!) bad options (NO NAVI, OMG... ) etc....
Once they grind you into the ground, they reverse those tactic on the prospective buyer; low production (RARE!), Good Options, (YOU HAVE NAVIGATION ON YOUR PHONE NOW DUH!)
if you REALLY don't need to have it, Bottom line is, be prepared to walk away.
if you MUST OWN IT, pay their price and don't worry about it.
We're talking about one of, if not THE rarest (in terms of overall production #'s) Mercedes Benz cars made, less than 100 imported to NA in 05 and 06... If you want one, you better be prepared to A: Wait, and B: Settle.
I'd been looking on and off for four years, thought I had one at a local dealer, BAM, sold on superbowl sunday... UGH..
Next day one came up for sale in the MB forum classifieds.. I lucked out, but I sure as hell didn't ***** about the price!

Think of it in percentage terms. Again, I'm just going by the registry (which is unbiased) - two cars of nearly identical nature come on to the same market, but one has a 20% premium over the other for no discernible reason? I can speak to Autobahn's sales nature, having been a previous customer. I can wait indefinitely - there's always something else to buy or build - so it'll be interesting to see transactionally what happens to this car. Maybe I'll go by there and make them a reasonable offer to see what comes back.

NAV-TV supplied the FLIR and upgraded the head unit for dual video input (backup and FLIR). Bluetooth and iPod are 3rd party. Sirius and parking sensors OEM. Not sure about the camera. 3rd party makes the adapter that allows the Escort to integrate with the digital display.
