Jeep SRT8 vs. Mercedes ML63 from a stop

jeep srt8 vs ml63
I sold my Jeep SRT8 and bought an ML63. The Jeep is really quick and performance was not lacking, but after driving it a bit it is too rough riding and pretty cheap interior. Iloved the exterior styling but the interior and ride was just not acceptable. The ML63 has the power and the comfort to live with by comparision. The price difference is huge, but for my money the ML63 does the trick. I do think the Jeep is faster and corners harder, but driving the stiff suspension gets old quickly.

Also, if you watch that vid, and count the seconds as they tick by, you will see that the ML does not pass the Jeep until around 14 secs. And since the Jeep runs low - mid 13s in the 1/4.....by then the race is all over.
But, don't get me wrong, the ML is a SWEET rig and obviously will pull beyond 100mph.
And if you don't believe the Jeep wasn't power braking, check the vid from inside the Jeep. Sounds to me the ML was power braking:

The ML did not have a late start, and the Jeep wasn't power braking. And if it was, guess what, doesn't help. The reason the Jeep jumps out like that is the gearing.

It was a late start because judging by performance numbers the difference to 60 mph is 0.1 sec and in the video Jeep tooka lead of 1.5, 2 cars? And you saying they had even start? Wake up bud, Jeep clearly had an erlier start or ML63 had a late one, whatever you like better. They are almost identical to 60 mphs I just dont see how 0.1 sec difference transfers to a 2 car length, maybe a hood.

Well, then the driver of that ML is HORRIBLE!!!
That makes two videos now of him getting his A$$ handed to him. These two of the same race, and the other from a dig at night.
Look, as I said, I like the ML, and I am not ******* it. They both put up pretty comparable numbers.
The ML made the most recent BIG step, come 2009 The Jeep will come with the 6.4L HEMI producing 500+HP. WHEN WILL IT ALL END!?
As a fan of both.......I hope NEVER!

Power braking my ML is a big no-no. Even with the traction control turned off the wheels spin to much and the damn nanny shuts down the acceleration. Costs .2 or .3 to 60 minimum.

The axle ratio for the Jeep is 3.73. The ratio on the ML is 3.45. The higher the ratio number, the greater torque that will be available at the rear wheels. Thus, this is why the Jeep jumps like mad out in front. If you watch the video again, you will see that at 4 secs in, both vehicles are going a similar speed (the Jeep is no longer pulling). That same speed????? Probably 60 mph, thus the similar 0-60 times.
However, from 0-10, 0-20, 0-30......the Jeep just pounces. I assure you, if you haven't run against one yet, go find someone who has one,and you will see what I mean. If you lived in the Philly area, I would have love to meet up, if for nothing more than admiring each others rigs, but, alas.....you live in Canada

There must be something else too. Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but final drive ratio alone doesn't mean all that much. The ratio of first gear and final drive together should determine torque available. The jeep has 5 gears, the ML 7. ML is 4.38 in 1st and Jeep is 3.73 . Perhaps the lighter weight and maybe the SRT8 engine comes into the power band quicker?

Seems to me that the smooth luxury of the ML screams lady's ride much more than the raw power of the "in your face" HEMI powered Jeep
Check this recent vid out. Jeep vs. SL55 AMG. Jeep even pulls it at the beginning:

We must be watching a different video. With the shifting camera angle it's a little hard to tell, but it looks like the the MB is right there and begins pulling ahead around the 5 second mark, and continues pulling away.

OK, you're wrong. Thee Jeep pulls ahead by about a hood length, then the 55 begins to pull. It's tough to see, but the guy who made the video posts on the cherokeesrt8 forum. Now, he does have a CAI and exhaust, but that doesn't do much for these Jeeps.

Man, I can't believe this thread is still going. I don't doubt that the Jeep is quicker than my ML63? No problem at all. But so what? IT'S STILL JUST A JEEP! Fellas, if we wanted Jeeps, we'd buy Jeeps.

SRT8 = 13.31
ML63 = 13.23
Stock VS stock at Drag Times. If you believe such a small sampling, they are essentially the same performance wise.
