Question Is $3500 off MSRP for an 08 ok?

About to close a deal with a dealer in the Northeast for their first 08 - giving me $3,500 off MSRP whatever that is going to be. Would you do it? I 've heard of discounts in the 4-6K range on the forum... any input would be appreciated!

I'm in the market for a ML63 myself and will do my best to find a preowed. Why pay 90K + when you could buy a 07 w/ less then 3k miles loaded for 75-80K? Even better if it has been certified and they add the extended warranty.

And to answer your question, I think that $3500 off MSRP is good, but remember that invoice is 83k plus what ever options you want. Save yourself 15 k and go with a preowned vehicle. Let someone else drive it off the lot for 15k.

You ought to be able to get an ML63 for invoice just by asking. $3500 off is not nearly enough, IMO. Your dealer does NOT want to carry one of those trucks in inventory, and they will step up big time to move it out, believe me.

but it's not really inventory yet, right? its an order for an 08... i would def agree if it was an 07 sitting on the lot... thanks for the reply!

even though Mercedes Sales reps try to tell you that 6% is all they have in these cars. The true number is 12%. Thats how much they mark up the cars. I would ask for 10% off. Thats fair. Even with an 08 model, I would not settle for less than 10% off. If the dealer says no, go to another one.

I have bought two cars from Dick Dyer onlline in S.C., Mercedes dealer who always has good prices. An E 63 for $6000 under and an ML63 last month for $5000 under. The freight was about $1000 to Arizona, but for you would be less. I'd talk with them about a car, it is simple and easy dealing with them. I have no connection with them, but both deals were easy and professional. The first they dielivered to my door and picked up my trade. Got about $5000 more from them than local dealer, the ML was no trade.

Blue Monster, so I can argue with the dealer as an informed consumer when I purchase my Benz, where/how did you come by the 12 % mark up figure? Looking at Edmunds it appears there is a mark up of 7% to 8%. Do Mercede's dealers have a hold back figure of 4 to 5 per cent?

Mercedes dealers have one of the largest holdbacks in the industry. Savvy buyers can always get invoice or better. I've purchased three new AMG cars in the past two years, all below invoice.

I purchased them from different dealers. This is not rocket science, fellas. Even at invoice, due to the huge holdback, the dealership stands to ultimately make a boatload of money on the sale. Furthermore, they all know what we all know, namely that all AMG cars are hard to sell and are way overpriced at retail. If you let them know that you know this, they'll cut right to the chase every time.

7% off MSRP on an 08. I think this is pretty good. Friends brother is the GM.

It would be hard to ask for discount on hold back. If you take away hold back, how do they make any money?

The real question is not how do they make any MONEY on your deal, but how do they BENEFIT from selling you the car. Here is a partial list:

(1) Doc fees
(2) Finance fees

(5) Volume incentives
(6) Accessories
(7) Parts
(8) Service
(9) Future trade-in
(10) Preventing you from buying from a competitor
(11) More ways than you can count
