Thinking to buy ML63

Hello guys!
I am wandering around to buy a new suv for our family and I am in amidst decision.
I was going to buy 4.8i X5, but wife did not like it.
So, I changed my mind to buy 2008 ML63, and just want to know if there is bugs or any 'defects' in technical mechanisms.
I am afraid of European cars' malfunctioning and want to be fully awared of.

Since I am not really into this automotive industry, I do not know any specific features of SUVs, especially for ML63. Any positive or negative things on ML63?

Althogh my questions and concerns may seem difficult to answer, please help me to get important aspects of the vehicle that will be used for 20-25 years.

P.S. my new suv is not for tuning, off-road purposes, but most of city driving and a lot of highway driving.

Regards,
Kyle

Think hard before buy
I drive 06 ML63AMG and I had many small problems with it, dunno if it`s a problem of early ML`s, but after a year driving im changing it for S550 4m, cause the noise inside the car makes me crazy and the interior is like in a toyota! all this for the price of fully loaded S550 4m with designo paint and leather I also drived new X5 4.8 and it`s really good except perfomance sure X5 is much slower than 6.3 so if you need a good SUV wait for M version of X5.

Yeah the dash of the European ML63 is ****y, just as my current ml350! but here in North America they come with a nice shiny leather interior! which looks awesome!

AND what noise are you talking about?

I wonder if the X5 will have something close to 500 hp, latest rumours i heard they were gonna shove 760 v12 with 440 hp or so, which is not quite as powerful as ml63! But i bet they gonna come up with something special and unique!

If I were buying a vehicle for 20 -25 years for a family with city and hwy driving it would not be the ML63 (unless money is no object). The 63 is an exceptionally fast SUV that handles very well for an SUV. Over the course of 20 years I'm fairly certain that the mainterance of this vehicle will be expensive (brakes etc). Take the ML 550 for a test drive and also the GL 550. The ML63 is (in my experience) well made, fast, and reliable. I would not trade my ML for any other SUV out there right now.

Money would not be a matter for the purchase, and I prefer the exterior of ML63 rather than 550.

Thanks so far for your valuable opinions!

The only exterior differances of the 6.3 would be the wheels, four exshaust tips, the 6.3 badge and the fender flares. All which are very cool, however the 6.3 is not the vehicle for long highway trips vs. the GL550 or the ML550. JMO.

I have to disagree... I just returned from a 1200 mile trip in my ML63 and was very glad I took it instead of one of my other vehicles. It's a great highway cruiser and through the hills and mountains of my trip the power was always a welcome feature. It was comfortable and with the distronic/parktronic/bluetooth/IPOD/NAV features it was very entertaining without being taxing. Milage came in at about 18.6, which is not great, but I didn't buy this vehicle for milage.

Agreed 100%, especially if you want to actually arrive at your destination.

The ML63 is so fast, stable and comfortable on highway that you always under estimate how fast you are going. If you don't watch out for cops, you might ended up getting enough tickets to land you i jail before getting there.

The ML550, without the flares, tips and wheels looks completely naked and unfinished next to the ML63.

I wanted the ML63 and the wife wanted the 4.8i X5. She got what she wanted and I have to say besides the power difference between the two. The X5 is pretty awesome loaded up. I'm a BIG AMG fan but I love our new X5.
