How many miles on your ML55
Ill kick it off. I'm new to the forums and I just bought a 2000 ML55 for a winter beater off my older sister. It was her father in-laws before that. Her and her husband drove it the last 130k miles so I know these things are the most reliable trucks out there. However it seems to be running great still pulls hard. It just rolled 165k miles. How long are these motors good for?
I also called the stealership to get the maintenance records and it dosent ever show it having a transmission service. The service manager even said if theres nothing wrong with it and it shifts fine (which it does) dont bother servicing it. I'm new to MB's... is this pretty accurate?

serviced my tranny
serviced my tranny at 100k...and it ran noticeably smoother in shifts...I actually thought the same, but afterwards, glad I did it.
they dropped the pan, replaced gasket and tranny filter.

Hrmm, I should probably go through with it then. Since I'll probably do it myself, do you know where the filler tube is? I was told there wasnt a dipstick.

I just bought my wife a 2001 with 92,000 miles and full service history for $12,500 USD. It's a Eurospec that has a retail value of $17K+ USD. It's a really clean car. I bought from a DoD contractor, and we're going to be living in Germany for 4 years, so I had no problem with buying a car I can't bring back to the States.

156k on mine. only issues ive had:
* leaking water into driver and passenger floorboard. fixed by unclogging and reattaching drain tube
* power steering reservoir gasket leak. fixed by installing new gasket.
* broken passenger cupholder.
* SRS light due to passenger seat sensor. gotta get this fixed, but quote was $515 so it can wait, ill deal with the light![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
very satisfied. runs great and still pulls strong!

Mine has nearly 180,000 on it now and I've replaced the transmission, transfer case, steering rack, a couple MAF's, radiator and cooling fan, center support bearing, and getting ready to replace a wheel bearing. I've been hard on it and kind of surprised it has lasted as long as it has. I've really beat the hell out of it over the past several years. The engine is still going strong.
I love the car and plan on getting either another ML55 or maybe ML500 once this one becomes to expensive to fix any longer. I have never had a vehicle capable of what the ML55 does as a total package.

Mine is now up to 145,000. Recently I had to find the source of an Evap problem that was causing the check engine light to stay on. I smoke tested and saw the smoke coming from above the gas tank. This was a real PITA to fix. The dealer decided that I had a cracked gas tank and it would be $4000 to fix. I decided to try to fix the problem myself. I had to drop the tank to get to the area. After 4-5 hours I found a plastic T for vacuum hoses broken off on top of the tank. $2.75 in parts and it was done. I have had the truck from 45,000 and am the second owner. So far:
Power steering pump replaced:
A couple sets of shocks:
A/C recharged once:
Wiper motor replaced:
Small coolant leak: I just put in some stuff from Auto Zone for radiator repair and it has worked for 30K plus miles.
The remote locking has never worked:
The gas gauge has been intermittant since I got it. Once it gets to 3/4 tank it is fine. I always just hit the odometer button when I fill it.
Last winter I bought a set of Blizzaks w/ 17" wheels and it made a huge difference in the snow. I go back to the mono blocks w/ Pirelli Scorpions in the warm weather. I also bought an old Land Rover Disco to drive in bad weather.
All in all it has been a great truck. I would buy another (probably an ML500) if something happened to this one
