ML63 Check Engine Light - Intake/Resonator??
A few days ago our ML63 threw up a CEL with no noticeable differences in performance. Brought it in to the dealer and my SA said it had something to do with a leak in the intake manifold, yet the paperwork mentioned something about a resonator. The car also has a strong smell of gas when parked.
Anyways, picked it up yesterday morning and during the afternoon, the CEL came back on so I'm dropping it off again later today. Same symptoms as before. Does anyone have any idea as to what's going on? Is it possible that they didn't really try fixing anything and just cleared any codes the car was giving? That's my only explanation for them "fixing" the car and having the CEL pop up again same day.

What year is your ML, check your oil dip stick. Sometimes the compression (when you really get on the throttle) from the engine will push out the dipstick (just breaks the seal) and cause a CEL for Lean engine at idle.

RR Evoque Dynamic, Benz Valente (work hack)
Intake manifold gaskets are a common issue on the 63 motor.
I had mine replaced recently on my 07 Ml63 but after also getting a history report from Benz, found they were also done when the car was just 1 yr old.
Aparently they leak. I didn't notice anything or have a CEL when they were replaced, but was told it's a common issue.
The gas smell is a bit concerning.
I'm sure theyll get to the bottom of it though

Thanks for the advice. I'd try it but the car's at the dealer right now. I did notice recently when I added oil that the dipstick was popped out. It could've popped out again.

Just a bit of an update: This time around, the cause for the CEL was the oil dipstick that was popped out.
But they did find something wrong with the suspension and ordered new parts.

I have already had my rear passenger strut replaced now my front driver side is making noise (only in comfort and normal mode) in sport it's fine. Don't get me started on the "5" visits to the shop for the lift gate.
I found out about the dip stick problem when I had my E63, I used to get these CELs for lean at idle and I couldnt figure out why (every time they tested my intake manifold gaskets they never had a leak)??? I happened to notice my dipstick kept being pushed out. Bought a new one and never had the problem again. I dont really worry to much about the ML my wife babies it, I only have a problem with the dipstick after I drive it
I just have to look for a new dipstick.

My SA said something about needing to replace the suspension control unit and they ordered a new one. Not sure why, but I figured since they already had the car, I might as well let them fix it if they say something is wrong and it's under warranty. Plus, I'm really enjoying the 2011 C300 they gave me.

Yes I did a carbon clean a while ago because of the engine PING, the CEL keep popping out everytime after that. I took it to the dealer and the try to reset it but it keep coming back. So in the end they replace the intake manifold which they found to be leaking. No more CEL, but the engine PING start to come back again. No good No good haha.
