Not such a surprise i am afraid bloody annoying esp
I understand much better now the comment of some w166 amg owners when driving it to the limit....
HopefullY my tuner will be able to find a way to really turn off the esp
for track use!
On the positive side the ml63 has an incredible potential, specially considering it didn't have the ceramic brakes and is heavier :-)

Regarding the brakes still being applied even with ESP off like in the video...
could explain why the w166 amg is more difficult at the limit than the w164 amg?
I remember reading a post you made about the w166 being harder to drive at the limit i think

2008 ML63 AMG
The ESP thing has always been an issue with AMG vehicles. I saw the episode he did a while ago about the 164 and had a similar opinion but then the Mercedes engineers put in some kind of code to disable it 100%. I would love to know what the engineers did to make that happen. Like justhebest says though...still cool to see it doing the motions around the track.

Moral of the story ... If you want a sports car SUV, buy the W164 ML63 AMG with the 6.3L AMG motor and none of the electronic nannies of the newer version. Not to mention the older ML63 had the much bigger rear brakes for improved stopping power.
With my 2piece brake setup and super light weight wheels & tires, it would trounce the Cayenne even with CCBs. Race track tested & verified
You can pick up a mint one for under $50k easy with extended warranty too
