So, my brake wear dash light is on, even tho the brakes and rotors have all been changed. It's been at the shop here in puerto vallarta, twice first time 3 months, 2nd time one month. This issue has the mechanics stumped, they've changed the abs modules 3 times. I'm finally getting it back Wednesday. Is it safe to drive? And will I have abs capability? Alot of work has been done, from the air suspension system, brakes, a/c unit, wiring.... too much to list. Any insight much appreciated.

were your sensors replaced?
the light goes away when you replace the brake wear sensor. thats the only job of that circuit unless youre specifically referring to SRS/ABS codes which are it's own deal and you have to have a Mercedes tech actually diagnose it

Not sure, but I will ask. Definitely challenging with language barrier. The mechanic, keeps talking about the abs modules (4 I believe), but the only light on the dash, is brake wear. My husband really should be asking here, I'm getting second hand info, and I'm no mechanic. But thank you.

Yes, brake sensors replaced.
So, next logical possibility?

The mechanic has the diagnostic computer, he says he's cleared all the error messages. But like I said he keeps changing the abs modules, trying to get a result. Closest mercedes dealer service is about 6 hours drive away.
Is the car safe to drive, will the abs brakes engage?
Thank you.

there is an open circuit on the brake wear sensor loop, thats the only explanation i can offer from here

its only job is to tell you when the brake pad wear sensor has been tripped, it wouldn't tell you anything else normally. ABS is ABS, there isn't really any crossover there to my knowledge. I am a repair shop.

Thanks Chris! Much appreciated. I will push this to the next mechanic, not going back to the current guy, can't trust him, too many non answers. Will it affect the braking performance?

it has zero bearing on any performance metric on the car

when you get back to the area, just order a couple BOWA sensors and take it to any ol' highly rated mechanic and watch them pop it in, shouldn't have to remove the brake pad to do it
