ML63 engine mounts vs x166 GL550?

As the w166 ML63 are on back order, the dealership decided to put the x166 engine mounts. They are different part number but according to them, they fit.

I was wondering if there was a technical difference between the two? I would think so as the part numbers are difference and they don’t seem to supersede the w166 engine mounts.

I would think both are liquid filled but do wonder if they is a difference in durability even though they look the same.

ML63 Engine mounts:

X166 GL Engine mounts:

There is no practical way of knowing the difference in durability without cutting the two designs apart and measuring them, or running extended durability tests in a lab.

Main design differences are packaging space in the vehicle, heat/thermal load and engine torque.

Rule of thumb says the 63 is a more severe environment for engine mounts than the 550. Therefore rule of thumb says the 63 mounts should be no less durable than 550 mounts.

Makes sense. I’m just trying to avoid premature failure of these mounts if for some reason they are not up to par and the dealership changed them to the 550 mounts due to availability.

What are the options?

- do nothing
- replace with available MB parts (63 mounts)
- aftermarket mounts if available

Which option seems best to you?

I had set aside a set of ML63 specific mounts from another dealership I used to take my vehicle in FL as I’m CO right now but for one reason or another current dealership decided to install 550 mounts.

I am calling them today to get clarification as I have other observations I need to discuss with them for the services performed.

Thanks for your input chassis.

I waited around 3 months for the ones on my GL63 to become available. If the part number is different, there may be a real difference. You will know if you get less than 100k miles from the 550 mounts. At what mileage did yours fail?
