Hello Gents...
I am new to the MB life. I am an ASE Master Certified technician and I have just purchased a 1996 S320 with 114,000 miles on it. I picked it up from a customer at the shop extremely cheap. She didnt want to pay for the oil leaks. I made a ridiculously low offer to her and she excepted. I am not going to say but it is less than a weeks worth of pay. I have been slowly bringing the car back up to par. I have not had one of these cars apart. The labor and cost of parts keeps most of our customers from ever repairing any issue. That being said, I have a great set of tools and a great work ethic so.... the term I would use is... Its all nuts and bolts. It was designed by an engineer so a technician can fix anything. So here is my deleima..... I have found the oil leak to be from the top timing cover/cylinder head area. I have replace the U-groove/ C-seal gasket twice..... rolled the first one. First time ever doing it. OH and by the way ALLData pictures and procedures suck for this. Leak slowed down to wear the car is driveable....but it still leaks. I have decided to pull the cylinder head. The car is in a vacant part of the shop and has been apart head off for well over 3 months. I am at a loss and need some help. I had the head checked and refurbished. Got new gaskets. I have set the head back on the block. The timing chain, guides etc are in great shape. The head shop cleaned up the cams and head. taking off my paint marks. In both cams there are multiple holes that look to set cam timing. I just want to make sure I am using the right holes. Any help would be awesome.... I want to get this car running. Daughter gets her license soon and I think I will let her drive this car due to how safe it is.
Any advise.... Is it safe to use an allen wrench instead of the factory pins? How do I know where TDC is exactly on both camshafts.
Hey all I'm Ryan from sunny Scotland and I've recently bought a CLK 270 and I love it! Thinking of changing the old style front bumper for a nicer modern style... Can the facelift Clk front bumper simply be bolted on I wonder?

Mbadger here predominantly from E46fanatics and Bimmerforums where I've managed to rack up a healthy diet of BMW. I've finally curbed my habit and with determination, purchased an '09 C300. When I bought my e46 in '06 I was actually looking for a C320 but I was jilted because a shifty salesperson sold the car out from under me. No regrets, happy to have started with this W204 platform, it's exciting, clean and filled with awesome tech. I'm happy to no longer be a curious lurker but a member/owner, participant and apprentice if necessary to harvest the knowledge base here!
I also came from BMW (had a 330 CI convertible). Loved the car and how it drove and Bimmerfest Forums, but hated the repair bills. I'm a newbie here too but the guys on here are great.
Hello!
I am a very hands-on do-it yourselfer who has owned Edsels (2), CRXs (2) Accords (3) Full size Chevy trucks (2) a Prelude, a Ford Exploder and an Odyssey. Anything with an engine is interesting, but things made well are enjoyable. I bought this 2005 E320 CDI the end of October in Virginia and flew up there to drive it home. One-owner, never wrecked, dealer-serviced, garage kept with 39K on the clock. I bought it for my constant travel between Charlotte and Charleston (3+ hours) for economy and safety. Wow, what a nice ride! Also- the stereo is killer. I have a few little things I am going to do to it and I am sure by now you folks have figured out the bugs and how to overcome them. I really look forward to working with all of you to maintain this beauty. I really bought it for the engine, but I have fallen in love with the whole car.
Thanks,
Tom
Checking in from North Vancouver. I currently drive a 2014 E250 with a 2015 C400 on order.
I am hoping to learn from the MB enthusiast community and answer questions as well.
Disclaimer : I am an MB employee in sales. I am not here to sell anything nor will I provide information not yet made public, though I am sure most members know more than I do, before I do :p
After owning Porsche's, BMW's and Lexus's this is my first MB. Stayed away due to perceived reliability issues. Just bought a 2014 450 GL loaded. Hoping this is not a mistake and the GL will provide the reliability I am looking for. The GL has the Active Dampening system, plus on/off road package, as well as all the other goodies to make the MSRP $89k.
Any comments or thougths on what I should be made aware of?

Hey Lower Rainland - Tall Paul here. Will be in your neighbourhood at the end of January to pick up an E55 AMG. Could you please make sure the roads are dry? Thanks.
I just purchased this low mileage 2006 CLS55 AMG nicely modified and owned by a local Mercedes Tech. I have to admit that I'm shocked at all the little problems that I'm already having with this car. The Mercedes Tech I bought it from basically told me that it's a Mercedes so I should get used to it. A freaking piece of crap Kia will run 100,000 miles problem free and this Mercedes only has 60,000.
So where is the best place on this forum to ask questions and get a serious response? Example: My right rear shock or air spring seems to be making a noise only at low speed.

I recently purchased a 2010 CL 550 4 Matic, I really wanted the '11 version but finances determined 2010 was the best of the two. My reason for preferring the '11 was the increased HP output from the addition of turbo's. I've been wondering can I tweek my engine via an ECU upgrade or some other tuning to achieve similar output? Just curious.

Just bought the wife a 2006 ML350 . 69k on the clock. I believe Alpine rain color, beige interior and extremely clean. Playing around with the rear entertainment (no remote), trying to figure out the Parktronic and making plans to change the oil.
Look forward to learning tech tips and getting advice on the site. God knows, Land Rover forums have helped me immeasurably.....

Hello all - Jim here from Diamond Springs, CA. I recently acquired a pretty nice SL500 with 102K on the clock. Had a 450SL some many years ago and enjoyed it so just couldn't pass this one up. Drives nicely - I just ran it down to Scottsdale, Az and back for my maiden voyage, 1946 miles. Ran great and I had a good time. Hope to participate in the forums as I know there is much knowledge to be gained here.
