Hi everyone!!! I just traded my gorgeous BMW Z3 for my new to me SL 320. BMW are dubbed ''the ultimate driving machine'' and quite frankly, my Z3 was all that. But I was surprised by the SL. I figured a car this big, with so few ponies couldn't drive, pull and handle like that. Of couse, I could not push the car too hard on a test drive, but enough to see the potential.
The car has 134 000 KMS. It leaks hyd. fluid by the upper corner of the windshield, and the rag top has seen better days...They had a new stereo installed but the rear speakers are mute.
My first task will be to fix the leaky cylinders. Oh, and the valve cover gasket leaks… I'm going to search throughout the forums to see what I should tackle first, but any insight here would be welcome. And whoever had a Bimmer prior to Mercedes, please tell me I did a good move!!!

Hi!

Welcome to MBworld! Thank you for the introduction. I would start in the SL Class (R129) linked below.
Good luck!

Hello guys, thank you for welcoming me. I could post a picture, but it would be of no use because I did not get the car! While exchanging papers at the registration bureau, it turned out that the 98 was a 95!!! And with all the bad things I got to read about the biodegradable wires, I pulled off. The seller was rather angry at me. But I read almost everywhere that the wires are not good in '95s and that it's not a question as to will the wires short together, it's a question of when!!! Anyway, we returned home and I asked if I could take a look at the wires. So I did, and everything looked ok. Of course, I did not peel anything, but all the exposed wires I could see were fine. Still, I walked away, with much regrets because I had already fell in love with the car. The owner mentionned at one point that it was a fantastic car, that he never had to replace anything on it except for a fuse. That sentence came back to me as I was inspecting the fuse box. Any chances the Canadian cars were fitted with the good wires? Thanks for your help.

Hi everyone! I thought I would update my situation. I found another one. It's a 1999 SL 500 AMG! It's not in good cosmetic appearance, but I'm already working at it. I will go through all the post to get answers to all my questions, but if any of you could help me figure out what AMG I ended up buying. I see there is a sl1 and sl2 options. The VIN decoder I used doesn't say much... thank you and I'll post some pictures soon .

1999 sl 500 AMG
The VIN is :WDBFA68F7XF183311
I got to read a bit, and it seems I have the SL1 pack. But I also have the CD changer in the trunk, but that's part of the SL2 pack... I do not have the heated seats. I feel there should be something AMG inside the car, like the steering wheel or something like that. On the outside, I have an AMG muffler with an AMG chrome pipe. Speaking of chrome, everything chrome isn't really chrome. It's more like black chrome, or it's tarnished chrome... The sport label on the lower front fender is regular chrome, but the rest of the metal trim is funny... The SL500 and the AMG badges on the trunk are regular chrome

And I also have the first aid kit (part of SL2?), if that says anything...

Sportedge, what is your question? The VIN you posted using datamb.com shows some AMG content (wheels, body trim).

Please post photos of your vehicle and it will help others to help you.

Tons of questions, but first, I was wondering if the car had the SL1 or SL2 option pack. (I also forgot to mention that it had the AMG carpets inside, on top of the stuff already mentioned). I was also wondering why the lettering on the trunk was chromed while the rest might be black chrome or dark chrome. Is it just old and tarnished?

Looks nice. Hard to see from the photo any difference in trim color. A better and closer photo would help.

Did your searching turn this up? https://www.benzworld.org/forums/r12...1-package.html

Do you have any of the equipment listed in the packages?

Thank you! I have everything listed in the LS1 Pack. But I also have the 6cd changer in the trunk which is part of LS2. Go figure...
I love the car. I need to resolve the SRS light on, the flasher that keeps flashing even when the steering wheel is returned to straight ahead position and have another key made up. Getting to know how to use the site a bit more, so I'll work at it.
I took another picture showing the chrome MB logo right on top of the funny chrome of the trunk. See the difference? All the chrome looks like that, except the MB logo, the SL500 logo and the AMG logo...

It's hard to tell from that distance. But all my chrome is like that, not just the bar on the trunk. Windows surrounding, windshield surrounding, hard top moldings...It would be odd that everything would be aftermarket. I will try a light compound to see if that changes anything...

What do you know! I just saw a guy selling a GOLD CHROME trim for the hard top! Don't know if it's part of an option, but at least, I know what I have!!!
