I bought this 2017 E 400 wagon certified About a year and a half ago. It is still under warranty and this winter I noticed on the roof above driver side a large section of what looks like clearcoat flaking off. It will actually come off quite easily with the car wash pressure washer. A dealer told me it’s not a factory paint issue and not covered under warranty but I did buy the car certified and it looked beautiful when I received it. I’ve been getting the runaround for the past four months. The dealer in Albany told me to contact the dealer I bought it from but that’s Schumaker in Scottsdale Arizona and I’m in New York! They recently hooked me up with a sister dealership to look at pictures and will let me know if it’s warranty issue. I can’t imagine how it’s not a warranty issue because I sure as hell didn’t paint the car and it’s not just in one place there’s small sections around the car that I’m seeing the same thing. And I bought it certified! Attached are some pictures. Two of them are of what’s coming off. One on my finger and one I have sitting on my windshield. It is extremely thin and brittle material.
Welcome. Sorry for your paint issue. Schumacher happens to be the dealership I take my MB to. It's no longer Schumacher. It's now MB of North Scottsdale. It was sold to the Penske Automotive Group in 2017. It's still a very good dealership. I've gotten excellent service on my MB there. I'm confident they'll look into your paint issue and do the right thing about it.
I worked with Lou. Good guy! but been getting the run around for a while with management. They offered me $1500 or a good price on new car lol. Michael the general manager has finally hooked me up with a sister dealer in RI 300 miles from my home. Sent them the pics on Friday last week and waiting for a reply. Hope it works out and they do the right thing under warranty because if they don’t I’m going to blow a gasket and take it much further up the line.

The clear coat is pealing. Was the car in an accident and did they repaint the whole car? I have never seen this on a factory paint job. The other thing is did someone have a protection coat put on the whole car? Sorry to see that on a nice looking car.
I had my front bumper replaced. And as anybody would know it comes unpainted and it was painted before it was put on. Or it could possibly be from the painter painting the whole car lol. That’s what the dealer has said. The paint actually looks better underneath what has peeled off. So I’m thinking and hoping it is some type of paint protection that has failed. Definitely not something I have done but in my opinion it should be covered under warranty if it is certified. That’s the way I got it.
