Hello everyone. Just picked up my first ever Mercedes. Got a very nice 2013 with less than 12,000 original miles. Bought it from a co-worker selling his parents car to settle their estate. Drove it from PA to TX this past week. Very nice on the road.
Newbie question. The VIN says this is a C Class 300. Why does the badging on the trunk say CLS 300?
I think I figured it out. Before I bought the car they took it to a body shop for a little storm damage repair that included a scrape from a tree limb on the trunk. It looks like when the badges are ordered they now come with the CLS. Shop did not know better and put all the letters on the car.
Any suggestions on how to take these off without ruining the paint? This car has been garaged 9 of it's 10 years and the paint is almost perfect. Hate to chance screwing it up.

You should be able to "saw" the badges off with dental floss. Position the floss between the 3M foam tape and the letters (not between the tape and the trunk lid). Then pull the floss back and forth to cut through the foam. Once letters pop off you will be able to easily peel the tape away from the painted surface.
Thanks, watched a youtube video that said the same thing. Since these are recently applied looks like they will come off easy. Now I have to decide if I want to put them back on or go with the clean look of no badging.
