i would say the rear fog light is the same as the rear fog light on the w221... the car has to have one, here in germany it is law. since it is made here, i dont see them leaving it out.

EXCEPT on the W221 there is a light switch to turn the fog lights on or off (including rear). That switch is removed on the US version; only the European version has the option, which is a push button to the left of the headlight rotary switch.

Had a very very close call so realize I need a rear fog.
Talked to Mercteil, it seems easy enough.
Maybe with enough interest, we can do a group buy?
http://www.mercteil.com/en/products/...t-kit-for-w222
S63/65
~half of the 999 EUR of the diffuser kit
S550 with sport package
999 EUR rear diffuser kit, which basically gives you the S63 rear end - AMG tail pipes, diffuser, ornamental moldings
S550 standard requires a rear sport bumper and the rear diffuser kit - unsure how much a rear bumper costs
PM me if interested

As for factory wiring, I'm sure it's possible but I'm not sure how/where it is integrated into the car. I've had enough issues in past wiring additional lights to factory systems that I prefer installing a separate switch but to each his own. I usually go on the side of the steering column.

Rear fog wiring is very simple, see the attached figure. The main problem would be to control the rear-SAM to turn the light on. Would need the fog light switch and some version coding to activate it.

Not a good idea to have your rear mounted fog light on all the time.
It's very bright and thus dazzles anyone following.
Many US drivers not familiar with this light as few, if any, North American built cars come with it. Thus some drivers are not aware its even there, some drivers drive with it on all the time and a few knowledgeable ones deploy it as intended.
The problem is driving with the light on when visibility is good, oft times is cause for road rage.
