Could be useful to know what are you after with this question (specifically if nobody has ordered it from MBUSA so far).

In the past, this was only a European option on the S class, and the first I've seen it offered state side by mbusa.

Also, would be cool if it would fit the W221, or installed later in a w222 after the fact. Before this, the unit could only be imported and was over double the cost.

Does it take up a lot of trunk space?

It does, but the fridge can be removed if trunk space is needed.

At least now it is cheaper in the US, 1309 Euros according to the German price list.

I've asked somewhere else if anybody could test the W222 fridge on a W221 or vice versa. I'd like to know if my 221 fridge fits to a W222. The W222 fridge dimensions look very much the same. The main difference is that the flap at the trunk opens to the opposite side and the power plug is on the opposite side compared to a W221. These should not prevent compatibility, the power harness might need an extension but no big deal.

Do people flip when they see it? And have you used it yet?

That's a good question. I'm also wondering if that 222 fridge would work in a 221

It's not all that much different in the 2014. Does take a decent amount of trunk space and the cargo tray doesn't fit without having to cut a portion.

Do you mean the tray inside the fridge? Is that in the picture not something that comes from the factory?

Fridge takes up a lot of space but as mentioned, it's removable. It looks as though it might be the same although the part # is a 222 number. Likely just the switch and cabling are slightly different.

Didn't know it was removable. If I had known that, I would have put it on my order.

How easily is it to remove? Are there screws or something holding it in?

I borrowed a pic from another thread here, you just remove two of these big screws, one in the red circle and remove the power harness from its connector. No tools needed.

Actually, I was referring to the cargo tray accessory you can get for the trunk area.

http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/access...rtNo:B66680029

Kratos-TM, I figured it was removable based on the fridge option for the previous gen Euro S-class model. I will say that some of the pictures of the trunks I've seen seem to show an opening where the fridge would go. I can't really confirm as I've haven't seen too many of them but you may be able to buy it and fit it after the fact.

Just wait till your S-class shows up and take a peek. Or maybe some of the other owners can speak to it.

Is the ski bag not standard for US cars? It is an option for European cars. We need this option for the fridge because you get the trunk side flap with this option. The ski bag is inserted through the same hole from the trunk side. Obviously one cannot use both simultaneously.

I would assume that it would not be too difficult to retrofit the door for the ski bag (and the fridge).

I don't think so... And it was 100% not for the W221, 07-13 model.

I am looking to add the refrigerator option to my S550 order. Please tell me whether your's proved useful over the long run. Was it used much? Does it keep thing cold or just cool (below room temp)? Has it broken down?

Thanks for your consideration.

I have the 'fridge in my S600. Works well, if a bit small, and also adds heat to the trunk.

You are driving my dream car! Could you elaborate on the heat issue, is it a problem? Also, do you find the fridge gets much use? Thank you.

A 'fridge works by pumping heat out of a closed box. That heat has to go somewhere, and the trunk is where this 'fridge dumps its heat.

No, its not a problem, but it is detectable when the trunk is opened.

Also, do you find the fridge gets much use?
As a daily driver, it gets practically zero use.
As a long distance mileage destroyer, it gets plenty of use.

Anyone considering the fridge might want to read the complete retrofit guide for a W221 that did not have the ski-bag:
https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ferrerid=60539

Obviously the 222 may not be the same, I have not had a look but I would expect it to be very very similar, just needs W222 specific parts.

Before this referred thread I thought the retrofit task would be too big on a car that did not have the ski-bag option. It isn't any minor task but the thread proves it is nothing like impossible.
