Ordered the 2018 S450 and have a couple questions
As I stated on Streamliner's post ("I'm smitten...........), I pulled the trigger the other day and ordered the 2018 S450 (4Matic) with the following options: Selenite grey exterior, black interior with light burl walnut trim, Premium Package, Warmth and Comfort Package, Driver Assistance Package, Head-Up-Display, NightView Assist Plus, Wheel Locks, Cabin Atomizer. I was really struggling with the exterior color. I have the iridium silver on my 2014 S550 and considered getting the same color. I also considered getting the diamond silver metallic. But I thought I would try the selenite grey this time.
Now here are the two questions I have: I have seen quite a few videos of the drive and various features of the new S Class. On one video the guy says if you come to a complete stop due to traffic, the car will move by itself as long as it's within 3 seconds of the stop. However, another video that's pretty recent says, the car will move if it's within 30 seconds of the stop with the new and enhanced Distronic Plus. So, which is it? Here as a link of a very good video where the guy says "within 30 seconds and not just 3 like the older system".
. The other question I have is this: There is a wireless charger neat the front console, right? I don't give a hoot about a rear wireless charger.

Yes, there is a wireless charger in the console.
I have been in stop and go rush hour traffic with the distronic engaged.
Have been at a complete stop for at least one minute, maybe longer. Not a problem!

I drove for maybe 40 miles stop and go on two different freeways and only touched my brake when I took my exit to go home!
It's a great system suited for this kind of traffic, takes a lot of stress out of the equasion. And yes the car will accelerate on it's own when the traffic starts to move.

I would not know the answer to that since I have never owned an older 560. But from all the comments and from what I have read the Assistance Package is much improved!

Mike, I didn't realize that you now own the 2018 S450. I thought that maybe you own the 2018 S560. That answers all my questions. Obviously, the Driver Assistance Package is the same on both the S450 and the S560 from your comments about the car accelerating on it's own even after waiting for at least 30 seconds after a complete stop due to traffic. By the way, the dealer told me that I should have my S450 by the end of May since they found one with the exact options and color that I want through an order by another dealer somewhere in the U.S.

The Distronic “wait” time is at least 30 seconds now and probably closer to a full minute. There is a wireless phone charger in the center armrest, but as I understand it, it only works with an iPhone X. You MUST get Magic Body Control. It is TREMENDOUSLY improved for 2018 and the “Curve” feature puts a smile on my old face every time I drive the car. YOU MUST GET MBC! You’ll send me a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle just to thank me.

MikeAtLincoln, does your 2018 have the MBC?
EDIT, 10:38 PM CDT: Streamliner, I don't see the MBC as an option for my build. Could it be that it is not available with 4 Matic? Living in the Midwest, there is no way I would buy a car without the AWD (4Matic in this case).
Also, I forgot to ask MikeAtLincoln if the outside mirrors fold on the S450. I don't see it listed under standard features or options. I imagine they do fold.

Streamliner, I know you are right about the MBC, but unfortunately I have to keep the cost down. My wife thinks I'm "crazy" ordering this new car now since my present car (2014 S550) is in great shape. I am not wealthy (compared to most here on this forum) so I have to watch my budget. I tell my wife "you only live once" and also "I only have one vice: technology", in oder to pacify her.

My 2015 was also in near perfect condition and I thought of keeping it as well. It would have been the prudent thing to do. That said, I cannot tell you how OVER THE TOP I am with the 2018. Even though so much of it is familiar, so very much is just tremendously better, to the point where I am just beaming every time I drive the car. I know that MBC is expensive, but it finally works like it should. On my 2015, I would say that it worked about a third of the time. On the 2018, it works most of the time and there is no need to keep your foot on the gas. When simply driving around residential corners, the “Curve” feature just amazes me. On a faster freeway off ramp, the sensation is nothing short of amazing. Dump the Night Vision and get MBC!
Am a big ABC fan and would have picked MBC if I wouldn’t have needed 4matic.
This is the one thing BMW brought to the table with the new G12 7series

I am glad that your new S560 is such a good fit! Also agree that MBC brings value every day to your driving experience unlike night vision which is something one plays with a few times but never really uses it.

Correct, MBC is not in your cards... but Airmatic works very well in the S-Class as you already know from the S550

"A Mercedes-Benz innovation, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® cruise control uses radar-based technology to adapt your set speed in response to the flow of traffic ahead. If traffic slows down, it can reduce your speed automatically until your path clears. If the vehicle ahead slows to a stop, it can brake to a full halt. When traffic moves, you can resume with just a tap of the accelerator or cruise control lever, or it can resume automatically if the stop is under three seconds".
So what gives here? Is this false info about the 3 second waiting time on the MBUSA site?

I thought the waiting time after a complete stop was all settled but when I see my build I see the following description (on last sentence):
"A Mercedes-Benz innovation, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® cruise control uses radar-based technology to adapt your set speed in response to the flow of traffic ahead. If traffic slows down, it can reduce your speed automatically until your path clears. If the vehicle ahead slows to a stop, it can brake to a full halt. EDIT: Now that I read that statement more carefully again, it says, "when traffic moves, you can resume by just a tap on the accelerator or cruise control lever, or it cane resume automatically if the stop is under 3 seconds". There is no cruise control lever on the 2018 refresh S Class, so obviously, it is wrong when they state the above.

This is an older varient of the distronic. It is different for 2018. It will resume after 1-3 minutes, can't remember the exact time but it works very well.

The new distronic under the Driver Assistance Package is called Distronic Plus and the old one was just Distronic. So MBUSA has not updated the description of the new system.

Please correct me / add to if if there are any other big differences.

They are ALL called Distronic Plus. The difference being that the 2018 vehicle can come to a complete stop longer before you have to engage the gas pedal or stalk/steering wheel control and the software that controls it is now tied into the navigation system and will slow the vehicle down around curves, etc. There may be other differences with the Distronic Plus ( adaptive cruise control ) but I believe those are the 2 biggies.
Please correct me / add to if if there are any other big differences.
- Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC
- Active Steering Assist
- Evasive Steering Assist
- Active Brake Assist with Cross-Traffic Function
- Active Emergency Stop Assist
- Active Speed Limit Assist
- Active Lane Keeping Assist
- Active Blind Spot Assist
- Active Lane Change Assist
- PRE-SAFE PLUS
- Route-based Speed Adaptation

I've asked this question before but got no answer. I have looked and looked on the MB 2018 S450 for standard features and I cannot find anything about outside folding mirrors. Surely, the S450 has folding mirrors when parked, right?
EDIT: Well what do you know! I finally found the answer on a U.S. News and World Report review. As I suspected, the power, folding mirrors are a standard feature.

You're right, Wolfman. However, the inventory in this dealership sucks for the 2018 S Class. They have one S450 there but it's the base model. I forgot to check the outside mirrors when I took it for a test drive for about 15 minutes. And getting a hold of the GM that I dealt with by phone is very difficult. That's the main reason I've been asking multiple questions here. I appreciate your help and several others here.
