2020 S560 Sedan, 2019 SL450, 2019 E450 Luxury Trim Wagon, '24 BMW I7 on order...
I still say that it is not much more that a tarted up, regular W222, with more rear seat leg room. Virtually everything available on the Maybach, with the exception of the grill, the V12, two-tone paint and some proprietary wheels, is available on the S450 & S560.

You can't beat the comfort, ride, and luxuriousness of the Maybach! For rear passengers, it's unparalleled by any available Mercedes as far as comfort and amenities. The different color combinations and interiors available only on the Maybach is dizzying! It is in a class by itself!

Then a la Bentley or Rolls Royce specially trained sales staff would help the customer select from countless paints, custom paints, leather and exotic skins and woods. This easily equaled RR in selection and I might say in wood quality as well.
A Maybach would cost a minimum of four S500’s as well.
Nothing like the tiny selection available today.
As others have stated before, the current Maybach is 100% S class. Which is not a bad thing as the W222 was specifically designed for all platforms all the way to the Pullman.
But it is all but a shadow of the prior Maybach and successful because of that.

If it were 100% S class, it would be listed under the S class Models; it isn't. It may not be a separate brand anymore, but it has it's own category and listed as such. In 2015, Mercedes brought back the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes lineup, representing advanced luxury. It is their flagship model. It shares the S designation ( which stands for any Full size Mercedes), but it ends there in quality, amenities, and workmanship. It may have started out as it's über-opulent S-class but has quickly developed into it's own sub brand such as the AMG. Just look at the advertising and marketing campaigns. It has a double clear coat applied by hand. It has an extra 10 inches of wheelbase over the standard S-Class (132.5 inches in the Maybach) which lends to its spacious, rear cabin. In addition to outfitting the interior with the finest in leather, and wood, the clock designed and handcrafted by timepiece maker IWC. The use of high quality materials from the stitched leather to the wood/chrome accents fitted to the center console and door panels adds to the interior's exclusive feel. Mercedes-Maybach stands for the ultimate in exclusivity and individuality and is miles ahead of its pedestrian S-Class siblings. At over twice the cost of an S it should be.

It's a trim grade of the S_Class which is why it still is badged with an S. You're just regurgitating marketing/press material. You'd have to be totally clueless not to see or think that this is a some type of bespoke model.
Mercedes-AMG is still a variant of the S-Class. They're all S_Class models.

In terms of pricing, the S in particular is a bargain compared to the AMG. The current S650 Maybach has the same S65 engine (not the prior 600 version) and fully loaded is a whopping $50k cheaper than the S65.
But again, none of this diminishes how nice the Maybach is! It is a fine automobile and is selling well. If I ever loose my interest to drive myself, this would be a perfect car to get.
Btw, here is a pic of the clock in our E63s. IWC Schaffhausen...

Having seen all these interiors ,I can't help but say woe to the rear seat passengers of pre 21th Century who redeemed they traveled in extreme comfort . It's still amazing even a W140's rear compartment is so dated

You all want to downplay the Maybach as just being a higher trim, then go ahead and delude yourselves. All I said is that it is in a "class" by itself as the ultimate luxury sedan.

That's like saying they're all sedans. If anyone is clueless, it's you if you don't think Mercedes markets its Maybach as its ultimate, supreme luxury vehicle, apart from the other S models. There's a reason Mercedes puts it in a separate category in the sedan section. Those aren't trim categories.

You're just lost in the marketing BS. It's still an S-Class. Sorry if you can't get that man by looking at the car. These cars are clearly not marketed as a separate brand like the previous ones were. They are an extension of the S-Class. All you said was just wrong.

I'm not lost in any marketing bs. It's how Mercedes views it. The car only has the Maybach Emblem and logo marked all over it's car interior and exterior to remind you that this is their flagship luxury vehicle, separate and apart from the other S models. You won't accept it, that's on you.

No more MB:(
"In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach as sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes AMG sub-brand. "
Furthermore the previous generation Maybach was manufactured in it's own factory whereas the current is manufactured in the same facility as the S class.

You know, this whole Maybach discussion reminds me of the old “Duck Test:” If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it is probably a duck! The S560 Maybach looks like an S560, but a bit longer. It drives pretty much exactly like a regular S560, but it’s a bit slower, as it is hauling around a bit bigger body and is damn near impossible to easily park in a metro area. It has the same engine, same other mechanicals, pretty much the same interior, but it has more rear seat leg room and comes in some different colors. It has the same trunk, doesn’t come with a spare and to 99.9% of the folks out there, it looks just like any other S560. It IS a duck! That said, when I can no longer drive myself, I would love to be DRIVEN in an extended wheelbase S Class, better known as the Maybach. Goodnight Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are!

You guys arguing about back and forth about all this is a trip. The quality of our problems today... Bottom line is whatever it's called, whatever it's badged as, whatever was before vs. what is now, this new car is still pretty kick a$$. Totally sweet machine for folks looking for exactly this. If I had a wife that said "honey, PLEASE, can we just get the Maybach?" I'd say... "honey, let's do it!"
Fortunately, I live alone, have no GF or wife for now and can do whatever the hell I want. For better... or for worse.

OMG... I can't have a convertible since I'm on the phone all the time, I can't hear a thing when on my cell. And I don't like getting my hair messed up, and the sun's rays suck on my skin. My wife had a Jaguar Convertible for 5 years and I drove it sometimes, it was stunning, dark blue w/light beige leather XK8. I wore dark sunglasses when wearing it, I felt like it was a woman's car and I wouldn't be caught dead driving that beauty.
This is my other car. I mostly drive this all spring, summer and fall. It's not a convertible but is so much fun to drive.

So, it's a neighbor's house 2 streets away from me. Cool looking house for pics! There's no way to get a pic in front of my house since I live... on a sidewalk! Only in the back and there's no really great pics back there.
My last 2012 S63 that I traded in 15 months ago.
