M272 engine performance tuning
Since MB introduced the performance compatible M272
DOHC 3.5V6 engine.
Any idea of the M272 engine tuning ? (budget under $5000)
Wait till next Wednesday I may have the chance to try
their new version for M272.
said, 300 ps on this new engine is the min requirement softwarewise.
(2) swapping 50_cell ceramic cats could be another bonus
hardwarewise.
(3) Lighter pulley, CAI, heat shield solution ..... are also common practice for most cars.
I budget $2000 for those mods, any other thought ?
The tuner successfully tuned the hot GOLF GTI & BMW 7
But when they checked the ME9.7 of M272 engine
It's a totally different story.
most map files are locked ! Only delimit & few files are configurable.
They've to paid the authors and get into locked files including ignition, fueling with all kinds of drive condition map files.
Time to wait they settle down the authority of pass.
The coolant temp control module is way aggessive than ME2.8 generation.
The coolant temp dropped to very low if you're pushing the engine while ME2.8 just heat it up till your break.
ME9.7 manage the coolant temp at around 99C, 10C hot
than ME2.8 in 70 mph cruising.
Then I read 79C when accel the car a little.
Doing quarter mile, the coolant temp keeps low as well.
It cool down the coolant as soon as the change of engine load, very smart !
the chip tuned, the very few capable chip tuners
for M272 so far.
MKB is another tuner ready for M272 engine this moment.
Here's the verdict of the MB mechanic who tested my car.
"Pull like a W210 E55AMG.....& 7G shifted so much smooth than 5G...."
I don't know yet, will find it out later when back home.
The tuner also lifted up rev limiter 100~200 rpm more.
Delimit as well ? free service. :p

Ppl here & in the states boost up that engine well by few good mods hardwarewise, pulley,plenum spacer,headers...
thus a good ~300 ps can be reached by most NA enthusiasts.
MB/M272 is the closest 3.5L performer against VQ35DE
Before the ecu mod, I'd say VQ still get the edge.
and now ........ they're pretty close on the par 300 ps.

Be aware of the esp total shut off procedure before dyno.
A friend's G35 with full exhaust + F-con dynoed 243.5 rwhp will be my good target to fine tune my chip.
M272 is very close to the prized VQ35DE each other !
