Next Modifiction: Evosport Pulleys and New Plugs
In December, I will be at Evosport getting their pulleys for my 99 E55 and having my plugs replaced. They will do a before and after dyno. In the meantime, I thought some of you might be interested in my mods to date and the resulting hp and tq.
In September, 2002, I dynoed the car in stock form:
max hp at 281.4 and mx tq at 300.5 (SAE corrected hp and tq on a chassis dynometer). I lost the dyno print out. Otherwise, I would also post the temp.
On November 23, 2002, I dynoed the car with the following modifications:
(1) K&N filter
(2) removed that flimsy plast grill in front of the two radiator fans (it was covering the opening to the two intake pipes to the airbox; and
(3) modified the airbox by wrapping it and the intake pipes with the thermo cool adhesived backed heat barrier. I also removed and grinded away the horizontal tabs that are on the bottom of the top of the airbox (I hope that makes sense). The cost of the modifications was under $200.00 and 4hrs of time to do everything.
the dyno showed an improvement in hp and tq
max hp at 290.9 and max tq at 310.9 (at 72 degrees, SAE corrected hp and tq on a chassis dynometer). That's an increase of 9.5 hp and 10.40 tq.
When I get the pulleys, I'll post before and after dyno figures.

No doubt!!! 9.5 hp and 10.40 tq increase for under $200, I'll take that any day. I just wish all the other hp and tq increases for the E55 for as equally cheap. Oh well, on to the next modification .....

Attached is the dyno chart showing max hp at 290.9 and max tq at 310.9. I was wrong about the temperture that day, it was actually 70.3 not 72 degrees.

Evosport Pulleys for 99 E55
I had Evosport install their underdrive pulleys on my 99 E55 AMG and replace the spark plugs. There IS a noticeable improvement in how the E55 launches from a standstill or if you floor it from 5 mph. Vadim will be sending me other dyno charts on the car before/after the pulleys. As soon as I get them, I will post them here. Below is the dyno printout that Vadim gave me yesterday when I picked up the car. The "before" max hp was 300.4 and max tq at 336.8. The "after" max hp was 302.2 and max tq. at 326.1. At first, I thought there was no real hp gains from the pulleys and a loss of tq. Vadim then explained the below dyno chart to me and how I gained hp and tq across the board in each gear. For example, in 2nd gear at 69.08 mph, the "before" hp was at 275.9 and "after" was 287.4 and the "before" tq was at 242.0 and after was at 253.0.
Oops!!! gotta go, family waiting for me. Will explain further later. Vadim and Ben, please add any comments or further clarification on the pulleys.

Another Dyno chart on Pulleys
If anybody is interested, here is another dyno char that Vadim sent me. It shows the hp gains of approx 9.9 hp in 2nd gear at 65.38 mph.

Next Modification: Headers and Kleeman S/C
I am currently at 302.2 max hp and 326.1 max tq at the rear wheels. If I calculate a conservative 17% loss of hp and tq in the drivetrain, then that means the engine crank hp is 364 (302.2 divide by .83 = 364.10) and tq at 393 (326.1 divide by .83 = 392.89). Or, if I use the standard 20% drivetrain loss, then the enginge crank hp is 378 (302.2 divide by .80 = 377.75) and tq at 408 (326.1 divide by .80 = 407.63).
The next modification will be the headers and Kleeman S/C!!!!
I am hoping Ben and Vadim can give me a package deal to save some money. I was debating between getting the new 211 E55 or s/c my 210 E55. I thought I would do the later and save money. With that in mind, Ben and/or Vadim. What kind of hp and tq gain can I realistically expect? I went to Kleeman's website about the S/C and saw their dyno chart on the S/C. However, is there an actual dyno printout that you guys have on a E55 - before and after the Kleeman S/C? If you do, can you post it? Thanks and sorry for any inconvience.

Jack: Here is a dyno of Kleemann SC on CLK55 we did awhile back. Green line is stock, red and blue with SC. We did not go wide open throttle (WOT) until middle of the 3rd gear, this is why red and blue runs are lower until than.
If we use 17%, we get 433RWHP/0.83 = 522FWHP, 440RWTQ/0.83 = 530FWTQ. With pulleys and headers I think we will be closer to 550FWHP and 550FWTQ.
As far as package deal, talk to Ben. I am sure we can make it worth your while. We have two more 55s scheduled for Kleemann install within next two months. If you can make it to LA, you can see what's involved in install and the results.
Thanks.
