Upgrading rear differential from 2.65 to 2.82

Hellow everybody
This is my first post in this forume. So I wish not making any miss.

I recently bought an 2004 S500 V8 RWD from a friend and it has broked rear differential. I bought a used one with higher ratio, mine were 2.65 and the new was 2.82. I was looking for better performance with higher ration so I go for it and was smiling but this didn't last long after I put the pumpkin into my Mercedes. The diff is put right into the place and once U took it for drive test. the surprise that I never exppect is that the transmission is not shifting and is due to diff change. Is what I did right, is it ok to change gear ratio or it is not possible and I have to put same number which is 2.65.

Thank you every body

yes it went into limp mode, it not rotating at the speeds expected because of the different ratio. So it thinks something is wrong and puts the car in limp mode.

you will either have to go back to stock ratio or have the tcm reprogrammed for the correct ratio.

i'm doing a similar mod on my car to 3.06, i have a different year and different trans so mine is a little different. But if you contact most of the performance tuners they can program it for you if you ship it to them.

Thank you gixxerboy. indeed i am in tripoli and my problem is so huge. First the stock ratio here is not available. And my stock one is broken. Second, no one here brleived it could be reprogrammed. They beleive in only one fact "stock ratio cannot be changed".

if you can give me website, or any contact for a shop who can do this for me i will be so thankful.

It is better to bear the cost of shipping and reprogramming than seeing the Mercedes parked forever.

and what about transmission, is it capable of handling the new rato?

Thank you so much.

i would contact kleemann, http://www.kleemann.dk/ they are doing mine but they have facilities in Europe too so they would probably be the easiest for you.

if that doesnt work i can let you know places in the US

Yes the trans will be fine. Different models come with different ratio's and the same transmission.

This is 100% correct. Also ... where'd you get a 3.06. We're doing a 3.06! Have you, perhaps, begun to measure your rear end in inches? Say ... 8 of them? Maybe 10? Something in between?

I've never used them, people on here have written reviews about them. I was unaware they could program that.

I had Renntech do something similar for me on my ML500. Went from 3.70 to 3.09. One of his computer whiz kids did the work.

I believe Renntech is now in Stuart, Florida.

Regards,
Jerry

The guy you're looking for is Jeff Katz. He was the tuner at RT for years, and is now at European Starr in Sarasota.
