sway bars or shocks

I was wonder if someone came give me a option about sway bars and shocks.

The questions is: for the money which mod give you more handling improvment, shocks or sway bars?

There are too many variables in your question to give a solid answer and is really an "apples versus oranges" fruit fight. Consider what each part does. Shock dampen the suspension's reaction to irregular road surfaces. Sway bars stiffen the chassis' reaction to side to side pitching and more directly affect over/understeer at the limit. Also the term "handling" is subjective and can mean everything from faster exits from a curve, to being able to pitch the rear end for drifting.

Mti....

well said! I think that the average guy will notice the shocks more, because their car will ride stiffer. The sway bars will not really come into effect much unless you track your car (IMO).

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I should get the shocks because I dont track my car. But I do like canon carving from time to time. And what do you mean by sway bar effecting oversterring. Will thicker sway bars make it eazier to over stear?

...I would tend to disagree that shocks would be a more noticeable upgrade....especially since I noticed that you did not mention springs. I upgraded the suspension on two previous Mercedes and now on my W208 and can tell you that upgraded sway bars have a far greater impact on handing then even a shock and spring performance replacement. But I suppose YMMV.

I would start with some Koni shocks, ideally with some new springs. Then consider sways.

I have aready lowered my car with H&R sport springs. I think your right I should get some more dampering because my shocks are old.

Have you guy ever replace old shocks on a car? Is there a big difference?

I think it all depends on the condition of your shocks.... You will notice the fun factory as soon as you put on the sway bars. It is a total package situation so it comes down to priorities and needs.....

Am I reading right, that you changed to lowering springs and kept the OEM dampers? If so, then you probably prematurely wore them out/killed them sooner. Get sport shocks for the lowering springs.
