How long does it take for moderator to preview posts?

Hi,

I posted a reply to this thread (https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...-bay-m271.html) last Saturday, and after clicking 'Post' a message appeared saying that a moderator will first preview my post or something like that.

It's now Friday almost a week later, and my post still did not appear there.

Is it a glitch or does it really takes that long to check the post? I also don't see it in My Posts, which adds to the confusion. Nothing I posted there is urgent, but I'm just suspecting that something did go wrong there.

Thank you!

You don't show to have any post in the reference thread. Not even waiting in moderation.

Posts going into the queue for review by staff is normal for new and/or low activity accounts based on several factors that are in place to help control spam. Posts not being submitted is not a known issue.

Thank you for checking!

For the future, is there any indication that I can see myself that my post is waiting for moderation? For example will I be able to see it in My Posts or some other place like that?

There is no dedicated section for members to see posts waiting in the queue.

I got that message once. I remember the post not having anything controversial in it. So I couldn’t figure out why it needed a moderator to review it. No moderator ever contacted me either way, and I don’t really remember if the post in question met with approval and was subsequently posted. If I had to guess, I would say it didn’t.

I tried to post a thread yesterday with some questions around my families Mercedes R350 bluetec in the diesel forum and it said it would need to be reviewed by a moderator. Is it normal to take over a day?

Hello

There is no set time frame as staff are volunteers. Of course we try to keep on top of it because it only benefits the community in doing so.

Posts going into the queue for review by staff is normal for new and/or low activity accounts based on several factors that are in place to help control spam. As the account uses the site more, it is less subjected to those checks by the automated system.

Well that makes me feel loads better.

I posted a new thread, which I put a couple placeholders for future posts to keep a timeline going correctly, and ended up wiping our the entire thread and any future posts of mine.

Hopefully they clear it up.

I am not seeing belugawagon’s post inside the thread, but his reply is listed on the tally of posts that are unread for me.
It is also happening on at least 1 other thread.
I did not put belugawagon on ignore.

@IB JT ,

Just to be clear, I am not a new or low-activity account, yet my latest long-form thread starter was just held for manual review for the first time.

Could you please clarify what specific factors, other than the ones you've mentioned, would cause an established member's post to be flagged by the automated system?

Well... yeah, you kind of are low activity. Not saying that with any malice, but you're currently at 262 posts in two years. That's a pretty low count. Perhaps the forum software triggered because of your unusual high word count posts, instead of post counts... who knows.

An interesting point on the metrics of forum activity.

In my experience, the true measure of a contributor's value isn't a simple calculation of post count over time. A single, comprehensive, "full-fat" deep dive that generates hundreds of likes and thousands of views can be infinitely more valuable to the community than a thousand short, low-engagement comments.

It's a classic case of Quality of Engagement versus Quantity of Posts. The algorithm, it seems, is still learning to tell the difference.

Short, sweet, to the point, brevity has its virtue.
Brevity is the soul of wit.
Brevity is crucial for summation, and clear understanding of underlying principles.
There is no value for length or quantity, for length or quantity’s sake.

That is a perfect and witty reminder of a principle I deeply respect. "Brevity is the soul of wit," and there is an undeniable elegance to a sharp, concise point.

It's a principle, however, that I often find is in direct conflict with another of my core beliefs: that in subjects as complex as these, clarity is the soul of understanding. And clarity, more often than not, demands that no stone be left unturned.

So while I will always admire the precision of a brief, powerful post, my own "full-fat" style is simply the unavoidable consequence of an obsession with being unimpeachably thorough. The result, as you've all witnessed, is a lot of overturned stones.

A quick note of appreciation for the moderator team.

Thank you for the prompt and transparent communication regarding my recent thread. It's that kind of professional engagement that allows this community to thrive.

The fact that this is all managed by volunteers is a testament to the dedication here, and your efforts are sincerely appreciated.
