Thinking about getting an R Class...

Any suggestions? I'm thinking about trading in the E for an R.

Couple questions:

1. Any specials I should be aware of?
2. What packages are the best value? My only must have would be HID lights and Nav and maybe Airmatic.
3. Is the 500 worth it or is the 350 engine fine enough (this will be used mostly by the wifey).

That's it so far.

Thanks.

1. Last month there were several, ask your salesperson, they should be up to date on what out there today. ( Changes monthly )
2. Nav can be added to any R-class for around $1800 retail, as long as the car has telematics. Though getting it as part of a package may make more sense...
3. The 350 is plenty of power for what most people are going to use the R-for. It merges well on the highway and gets pretty good gas mileage. ( I'm getting 22.1 in the city and I have a pretty heavy foot )

Test drive them both and don't forget to test out the GL450 while you are at it....

2. For my take, see https://mbworld.org/forums/showpost....2&postcount=12

3. 350 is IMHO a better value unless you can get a lot of stuff standard on the R500 that you want that is optional on the R350.

Best Advice - Go spend some time and really test drive a R350 and see for yourself.

Just my $0.02

IMO, the comfort, airmatic and premium packages are necessary for the R, at a minimum. For me, the lighting package was also a necessity. My R is equipped with premium, comfort, trim, lighting, heating, 3-zone, 18" wheels/tires and airmatic. This makes it a pretty complete package. I am very happy with mine and have averaged in excess of 21 mpg over the forst 7500 miles.

Lease deal...

In S. Florida I saw a lease ad last night for an R350 for 27 months, $499 a month, with $1100 cap cost reduction.

Dealer in OH is selling a bunch of R350s on Ebay below invoice! Are others seeing this in their area? Seems like the wagon-like appearance is a hinderance to sales?

I agree all those packages are necessary (Comfort, Airmatic, Premium, and Lighting - and in cold climes, Heating). Trim is a real nice add if you can get it. I think where MB messed up is making all those optional - because the vehicle only really fulfills its potential with all of them (also, second row center console and side airbags shouldn't be options). It's a $60k minivan/SUV crossover - EQUIP IT LIKE ONE! So equipped, it's a true Benz and an amazing vehicle. Without all that, it really doesn't come together IMHO. With all that, it's more fun to drive than my old W220 S430, and a much better vehicle than the ML320 we traded for it.

MB messed up big time by skimping on the level of standard features. If I hadn't gotten mine, equipped properly IMO, for nearly 10k under sticker, I would not have jumped, as much as I enjoy the car.
