05 E500 Wagon
2006 R500

Hi all, I am new to MB but was lurking in the W211 section for a while, searching for a late model preowned E wagon. Coming from 9 years in a full sized mini-van I think maybe the R would be a better step up and get a little more for my money.

I am looking at a 06 R500 with 12k miles for about 41,000. It doesn't have many options but every other one I see is in the high fortys. This kind of deal sometimes makes me suspicious and wonder why. It is at a MB dealer and would be certified with warranty.
A couple of things I saw that looked different. There was no R500/4matic labeled on the back of the trunk. I would assume that one could order a car without the labeling but it seemed odd.

There were Michelin tires on the car when most of the R,s that I have seen come with Continental tires. I guess someone could of changed them or wore the originals out already but I thought I would ask here anyway.

The car doesn't look to have been modified in any other way and I think that most who would like to do this kind of stuff would have ordered the car with more factory options.

Do they make the R class without AWD.

I have read what I could here and most seem pretty positive about the R class, any more input is always appreciated.

Thanks, Sammy

Hey sammy,

I too, just purchased a 2006 R500 to go along with my E500. It had 3900 miles and was very well optioned. It was a manufacturer's demo and I paid 43,000.00. It had an MSRP of 67,000.00

41K seems a bit high to me with 12K miles and no options.

Here's mine:

Oh, and the early R's didn't have the 4Matic badge but ALL R's are 4Matic.

Love the car though...it rides soooooooooooooooo nice!

Hey Benz,
Thanks for the reply, I wish I could find a better deal but everyone I see is up near 50K and I just don't think I got the guts to ship one cross country and buy without inspection. I would just like to deal with someone local and hopefully be treated well.
I had read your post before and liked your R alot. Seems really nice, funny thing though, the only option on the one I'm looking at is the Xenon lights up front. I will have to check when this car was put into service and make my decision, there is no badging at all on the back that is whats wierd.

Thanks, Sammy

I also got one of the reasonably optioned demos with 1400 miles on it for 43k MSRP 61k. I think you could beat the dealer up a bit better unless MB USA is not throwing in trunk money on these anymmore. The 06' models seemed to be priced wrong or something like that. Either way, all 06 R500 model with low miles were going for 14- 16k under MSRP back in October

2007 R320
MSRP on the 2006 RClass is $5,000 higher than the 2007 RClass.
If you take the $5,000 reduction plus the 7% (or more if you are good at haggling) for an '07 models (R500, R350, R320) for stock models (cars on the lot for immediately sales), you will get that $8,000 - $12,000 off for brand new 07 RClass. Something for every one to consider if you can not find good deals on leftover 06 models.

For '06 only R500 are available as demos or returned leased cars. You may be limited to colors, options, driven miles, and thus shorter warranty period and mileage.

I'm still hanging there for a R class. Last night me and the wife went and drove a 06 R350 and 500. I kinda like the extra power of the 500 but will buy the right 350 if it comes along.
The R500 I drove did not have airmatic suspension which is something I really wanted. How much would you value having it or not. The car still drives very nice but don't want to cheat myself out of an option that makes a MB an MB.
Crunch time is coming so I need to make a decision fast. Thanks.

We also drove a 350 before getting the 500. When we were driving it, my wife looks at me and says "this thing is slow, huh?" At that moment, I knew the 500 was the way to go. Ours has the airmatic and I can tell you with no degree of uncertainty that it's the most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven, period. Get the airmatic.

This 06 R500 had an MSRP of just over 60 and think I can get it for about 40.
My thoughts are that it is CPO from a local Benz dealer and will add the extra year of warranty and lengthen the mileage to 100,000, better than getting a new car warranty. I do see some better deals on these cars but have to admit that I value the extra warranty and would like to deal locally.
I know that you can pay to extend the warranty but am I missing something here. To me, paying a bit more for the better warranty and dealing locally has to have some value in it.

As always I appreciate the help. Sammy

Sammy, I think your deal is a keeper with the 100k. Go for it!
