Is this normal for R350 engine 2k RPM @ 60 MPH?
What is the mileage engine break in?
(Mine is just over 100 miles on the odometer)
Thanks,

Thanks,
2k rpm at 60 mph seems a bit too high, my E500 with 5 speed only revs to 2k at 80. I am guessing it is doing so because your car is still brand new and the adaptive tranny is still learning your driving style. My guess is wait till you hit 1k miles and if it is still reving that high take it in to your dealer to have them check it out.
Thanks,

I'll check out 60mph but at 80mph it's about 2500. My SL is about 2000 at 80mph so the R must have different gearing.

my R350 has 5000 miles on it and @60 mph, it still hits 2k rpms so I dont think mileage has anything to do w/ it

It seems 2K @ 60MPH a little bit high compare with some other cars.
The answer to your question is painfully simple.
Your transmission is either shifting to 7th or it's not.
Comparison to cars other than Mercedes is irrelevant.

I remembered to check my tach today while on the highway. I was driving right at 60 mph and saw my tach saying just less than 2k RPM. My car is an R500 and sports about 20,000 miles. In my humble opinion, 2k RPM is normal for that speed.

With R500 (V8), you should get less than 2K RPM @ 60 MPH.
At 80 MPH, I got over 2500 RPM.

I won't get to check until Friday when we take a road trip to NY. I'll check the rpm @ 80 mph to see what it is. I recall that, at a steady cruise of 80-85 (my normal speed when traffic allows on road trips) the engine speed isn't too far from 2500 rpm.Originally Posted by AsianR350

You shoudln't try to compare the R350 to the R500 in this respect. The 3.90:1 Final Drive ratio is the same for all R350's (2WD or AWD) but is not the same as the R500's 3.70:1 (only availablie in AWD). Power is also vastly different between the two (268hp/258 lb/ft for the 350 vs 302hp/339 lb/ft for the 500) and, trust me, all these factors will make a difference when the two cars only weigh 179lb apart. I checked a couple magazine reviews and engine RPM at 60 mph was 1900 on the two reviews that listed the stat. As far as break-in mileage, engine speeds at a given road speed will lower after break in but not enough that you could possibly notice without a digital tach....maybe 25-50 rpm...and can vary even more than that value with differences in ambient temperatures, humidity, engine temperature, and payload. I'd say you're in the clear and should worry about something else like saving for your 30,000 mile service.
Judging by the posts 1.9k rpm at 60 seems to be the normal speed so this got me thinking, could it be the 4 matic gearings that makes the tranny rev so high? It would be interesting to see what the 2 wheel drive version reves at 60...

R350 7th gear ratio is 0.73 and final drive is at 3.7 (3.9 is for the R280) using online calculator with tire size gives 102km/h at 2000 rpm....

I have the 7-speed and you could still be in 6th gear while you going 60mph.

Correct.. And so, I take a higher speed at 80mph and found the rpm to be 2200Originally Posted by smokersteve

My R has 8000 miles on the odometer and at 80MPH, the tachometer shows 2200 RPM which seems less than when it was new.
