Star Service Manual DVD

To those who bought the StarTech DVD, does it really have all the resources in terms of DIY - like changing cabin air filter, engine air filter and etc. really worth the money? Please share your thoughts. Thank you.

Yes, it has everything there is. This includes those you suggest.

Yeah, It's got pretty much everything. But I have to admit it is kinda technical - It's designed more for a trained technician than a DIY'er. It's pretty expensive at $150, but you'll easily recoup that cost on your first job vs. taking it to the dealer.

whaaaaat - $150.00. I just ordered mine yesterday from MB-USA for $60.00 + tax + shipping = $69.00 total. the part # is P-2700-251-07.

Smartest investment you will make

I have one too and it's a real go-to source for volumes of reading - if you're into it. Some would rather just use the dealer. Just wait until you have to find out how to reset your "Service Message" reminder, or want to change your oil or add coolant and need to know the approved fluids, etc etc.

Exactly--it's the very same information used at Mercedes dealers. And, the expectation is the technicians are Mercedes trained, which of course always follows some sort of "basic" training at a mechanics institute or the like.

It assumes factory special tools and never includes jury rigging anything. When it calls for a chemical, it assumes those exported from Germany by Mercedes and doesn't list Auto Zone equivalents (there aren't any).

Finally it's a Mercedes thing, incorporating all the traditions of that company. There is no relationship whatsoever between Mercedes traditions and the fix-it-with-baling-wire traditions of the Model T and all its still quite similar descendants. Attempting to use the latter maintenance/repair techniques on a Mercedes will likely do more harm than good.

Those of us who are old recall John Muir's How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive: A Manual of Step-by-Step Procedures. There isn't and will surely never be the equivalent for a Mercedes.

Does it perhaps say how we change the stinkin' air filters on the R350? No one seems to know how to get the assembly to slide out once it's disconnected from the top of the motor.

yeah.... It is the same procedure that was giving by RDC@VA on the previous thread. Even the iPod install is also on the DVD, but the things some needs a Star Diag. computer to sync. ALL the "remove and Install " procedure is there on the DVD.

I'm old enough to remember Muir's manual! I used it on beetles (1957 - imported from Morocco, and 1961 - converted to 12 volts and turned into dune buggy). Thanks for the reminder of those simpler days!

If I'm not mistaken that was for the cabin air filter, great procedure by the way! I'm wanting to figure out the motor's air filters...it's a stupifying process

I would like the process described, not the actual software picture posted. Fair enough?
