"NEW" 2008 Demo, P3, leather, lights, - need $$ advice
Looking at a 2008 R CLass demo, around 8k miles
P3, leather, xenon, -- sticker nearly 63000
dealer asking mid 40s -- with some room
Any opinions on the value of the P3 package?
Similar miles (or even less) 2008 P2 package are around in the mid 30s -- so this seems high
Appreciate any and all thoughts
So I would say your initial thought is right..sounds a bit too high.
2008 Leather and xenon were hard to find -- so this seems like a rare beast -- just don't know if it is worth paying premium for the lighting, the leather, the suspension, the infrared glass etc
2nd Row Climate Control is now rolled into the P2 group for 2009.
The Leather and Xenon packages have been dropped for the 2009 models and the Pano roof isn't part of the P1 package its separate.
So no you can't compare exact options to options, but a brand new 2009 P2 will end up running $43k after the cash offer (although it would be easy to come in lower than that at this point if you take whats already on the lot). Only problem there would be the R classes on the lots are almost always P1 cars with the occasional rear seat entertainment system or pano roof.
The other poster does have a point with the warranty. You would assume the factory warranty (4 years 50k miles which ever comes first) so they would certainly have to lengthen to warranty to sweeten the deal. Still seems like a high price to me, but thats just my two cents.
I have the MB Brochures for the 08 09 model SUVs and it does seems that the 08 with P3 has the active damping suspension.
We may go look at this car today -- have been told by dealer that it has not been titled so the 48/50,000 warranty hasn't started yet. And I ant to see how desperate they are to move it.
And I agree -- as part of negotiation was gonna make them extend the warranty, hopefully to 7 years/100k. Car is for wife and mileage is not an issue -- she is currently in 1999 E320 and only has 75000 miles on it. So the years means more to me than the miles.
Trouble I have is wife really wants the leather and the xenon so I can't push her to an 09 -- if this R doesn't work will probably get her a GLK.
I'm over on the GLK board too, generally driving myself crazy....
Any chance the 09's will get cash back in the near future?

For example, a 2007 car may have been put in service in 11/2006. I assume demo, etc means the car is in service.
This is a Herb Chambers dealer -- not exactly known for being scrupulously honest -- I know I have to watch my back...
This R thing seems so tricky I might just get the wife a GLK -- my reservation on that is it is too small to haul the kids around etc --- rrrghh.
All depends on how many kids you have. The R class is a good people mover, seating seven, but when the third row isn't folded there isn't much room left over for anything else. Forget trying to put a stroller back there with the third row in the seating position. Of course thats all fixed when you lower the third row and you have a huge expanse of room.
The GLK is great if your planing on hauling around say four people and their stuff. There is room for five but honestly that seat in the middle isn't good for anyone but kiddos. The GLK's cargo area is a lot bigger than the R class with the third row seats in the seating position though, so that can help out with the added baggage of the little ones.
I'll be watching the R class improvements and follow the development of the next generation, but that GLK is swaying me right now. At this point I think I will wait till the next model year comes out and then pick up a left over at a nice discount and trade in the C. I was deeply saddened to see the price of the left over C classes, but I really needed a new car at the time and couldn't have waited. I doubt the GLK will take as big of a drop as the C (C class resale for the w204 is awful), but there should be some decent deals to be had for the left overs.
She drove the R and just didn't see herself in it. GLK is sportier and "younger" -- really holds the road and nice roar to the engine...
Thanks for all the help tho you guys
