Hello all, my wife and I are looking at some R350's since we have 13mo old twins. We need to haul them, their stuff and some in-law help once in awhile. We looked at thr R500's but my wife drives too much to justify the v8's thirst and R320's are above my price point.
Needless to say, we have found an 06 R350, 19k miles Capri blue, grey int, pano, NAV, heated seats, for $26.9. There is around 4 months left on warranty. Going to get it inspected before I pull the trigger.
The car drives well mechanically and seems faster than all of the r350's I have tested. I dunno if it has been serviced better or what. I did find that the sunroof is slow to open and creaks. Is this covered under warranty? How is the MB warranty in general? I am used to BMW's warranty and they cover almost everything.
I do like the vehicle and I hope I can contribute to this forum in the future..

Mercedes' original warranty covers everything, too.
CPO warranty covers less.

Ext. warranty is great. I love that color as well. My wife loves being able to haul both grandmothers and our 3 kids when they go shopping/out to play, plus their gear. Keeps both grandmom's happy and she gets to basically kick back and ride in style.
good luck.
good luck.

I wouldn't worry too much on the gas mileage between the V8 & V6 the difference is parasitic. Mostly because the V6 has to move the enormous size of the R-Class around and struggles a bit to do that. When we were looking we didn't really care much if it was a V6 or V8 because of the small difference in economy, it was just harder to find a V8 in any color besides beige, sand or black.

The pano roof is covered under the 4 years warranty, you need to complaint it right away after you bought it. Mine pano roof making creaks noise and rattles. After first repair, the rattle is gone, creaks still there but the roof pops (expands) when temperature is hot. Brought it in second time, the whole pano frame was replaced. Rattle came back after that. Brought it in again (warranty expired), MB fixed the rattle, but some clicking develops. Today I find out that the wires above the ceiling console is not properly taped and probably knocking the pano roof motor. I will tape it tomorrow myself. Hopefully, this will end my pano roof problem. Originally Posted by bjo

Long story short, pano roof is cover under 4 year warranty.
OK, we are not potential buyers anymore. The R350 is ours. Already changed the oil and cabin filters over the weekend. Hope to share info with you all.

Use only motor oil to Mercedes specification 229.5, which must be printed on the bottle.Originally Posted by bjo

Congrats on the R350, if you don't mind where are our cabin filters located? I didn't know we had them.

You know that that most of the oil labels don't list this or BMW LL specs. I have done some research and most syth oils that are low weights like 5w-30/5w-40 can be used in most cars. I used Shell Rotella 5w-40, which I have been using in my X5, M3, and my wife's X3. It is a very good oil and holds up to daily use and even track/autox use in my M3.Originally Posted by lkchris

The cabin filters are located in the glovebox, which has to be removed to gain access to them. Kind of a PITA, but not too bad. There is a pdf on this site if you do a search.Originally Posted by R KLASSE

Best bet is Mobil 1 0W-40 European Formula.
You're simply incorrect that "most oils will do."

LOL, Walmart has it as well as a few other auto parts stores. Originally Posted by lkchris

0W40 maybe "ideal" but it is difficult to find. We can agree to disagree on the oil. I feel that as long as it is changed every 7500 miles, Rotella 5w-40 will be appropriate.

Individual openions about which oil to use in your R class might be OK but I think MB warranty will give you tough time if you do not use the MB APPROVED oils and something goes wrong on the engine. IMHO.Originally Posted by bjo

Of course this applies only if the vehicle is still under warranty.
The R350 has a few months left of factory warranty and a 3yr/75k mile warranty.
Honestly how can the dealer tell if its not MB spec oil? Send it out for analysis? I doubt it. If it was an AMG or M motor I would go with factory specs, but if the standard V6 is anything like BMW's inline 6 workhorse, then almost any synthetic oil will do.

Late to this party, but had an oil related issue (see post today), called the dealer, and the service manager told me to use Mobile 1 10-40.
I told him I had read to use 0-40 on the forum....but he said Mobile 1 10-40 is what they use....
Soooooo, which one? Lol...probably does not make a difference, but who knows?

Congrats on the R350. Sounds like you also purchased a 3 year/75K warranty. May I ask if that is a MB extended warranty and how much you paid for it? Expect I will need to buy one soon myself.
Also, if I recall correctly there are a couple of threads on replacing the cabin filters from the engine bay which seems much easier. Just an FYI for next time.

Lots of info here too on the oils issue. I dare say most owners probably use the Mobil 1 - and I believe most U.S. cars all have the Mobil 1 sticker under the hood. (European formula). I started with the recommended 0-40, the dealer now uses the 5w stuff.
Mercedes are sort of a car that commands respect, given the german reputation for the best engineering prowess in the world. Accordingly, tires other than Continentals or Michelins (or more recently I've seen Bridgestones) that are specified as Mercedes Original in the service manual, and oil other than the 15,000 km between changes variety recommended by MB on the service sheet (and incidentally the sheet you indicate on your service indicator menu after an oil-change to give the computer the correct parameters to calculate your next oil change) is what the average corner-lot dealer would do.
I'd highly recommend buying the service manual on DVD - lots of good info there as you seem to be a do it yourselfer type.
Congrats on the smart purchase and welcome to the club of happy owners.
