shaking car with big wheels (22")

hey, some time ago ive mounted 22" on my R320cdi

but they where shaking from about 60mph and upwards...

went to a new shop to get them balanced again... still shaking... off to new shop new balancing... STILL SHAKING!!!!

one of my freinds also have an R320 with 22" and his is also shaking...

if we mount our 17" winter wheels nothing is wrong... our 22" is 100% balanced...

any clue???

I would check the steering ball joints and suspension bushings. I'm assuming the new wheel / tire combination is heavier and has a different offset than original spec. This might result in an oscillation or shimmy from worn suspension that didn't happen with the stock wheels.

Have you had the suspension and components looked at?
Like Pete mentioned large/wider wheels will show you your suspensions weakness.

Also, you said you had your wheels balanced over and over again...
Did you have the techs check if the tires were well balanced before you had them balance them again? Or did they just start from scratch assuming that the tires weren't balanced?

I used to have 22" on my R-class but no longer because of the shaking. The first time was fixed by the adding the hub rings. The second and every other times were bent wheels. Btw, after the wheel is bent the first time, it is done. Save the money on repair because nothing you can do to fix it permanently. It will bent again and again.

+1 for hubcentric rings... but no good rim shop would let you drive off without them so Im sure they have been on since day one.

Have the suspension joints and bushings checked. I'll bet something is a bit loose.

ScaSer,
Have you check is any of the wheel being bent? Very easy to do with such a low profile tire.
