Illuminated Star on R350
Installed the illuminated star on my 2011 R350 last night. Came out looking better than I thought! Wired it to the DRL's on the bottom of the bumper.

Will take picture later on this month and post it. I did this so the star only turns on at night. You can't see it during the day anyway.

This is the one I ordered, you have the same body style as my 2011. Unless you have the distronic option with flat STAR but not sure that is an option on the R-Class.

Just specify the color you want when you get to the payment area... in the notes area. I would put your car model and year as well at "White" in parens.
Shipping was about a week.
Good luck!

This post is super timely and helpful as I just picked up a 2012 R350 and was looking into this. Question on install, Does the emblem just twist and pull out? I tried to remove but it doesn't seem to want to twist and I'm hesitant to try to force it counterclockwise if I'm wrong.
Thanks for the help!

Didn't tap into any fuse. Just took the positive and negative wires from the peanut bulb right next to the grill. Leave the headlights on "auto" and the star only goes on at night.

Just noticed, the 2012 R350 doesn't have this bulb there. You can use any other marker light you can find though.

If you don't mind, I have another question. Just like @EGRGUY asked, to remove the star, is it simply to turn the MB star counterclock-wise?
Thanks again.

Mine was very tight. Took a pair of huge channel locks and used the grip part stuck it between the parts of the star. Then I used a prybar and stuck it between the handles. Gave it some good torque and it came undone. It took quite a bit of modifications to make the iluminated star fit. Lots of cutting and grinding. Ended up using silecone to glue it in place. Take your time. I ended up taking the whole grill off so I could work on it on the work bench.

BEEN SUPER BUSY...
To remove the star twist slightly until you feel it loosed up, then remove the star from the plastic housing carefully, just wiggle it up and out. Then the rest of the housing will turn more and pull out.
I ran the wiring to the DRL (Daytime Running Light on the driver side, hard tapped into the line and soldered in.)
Hope this helps. Please post your pics once you get it installed!

@bensitto. Thanks for the info. I order the part from eBay. It is shipping from China. Once I got it, I will try to install it on a weekend. I worry about twisting the star too hard but I will do it gently.
I will tape into DRL as well.
Thanks again.
