Mercedes S550 Coupe (now) CL55 (until last March 3), Ferrari 612, Porsche Macan GTS
The only issue i have with the S class coupe is that it doesnt handle nearly as well as its predecessors (unless you drop some serious coin and buy a S65). That is because they removed the ABC suspension system from all but the S65.
I have a 2017 S550 cab which I got last December and frankly I have no complaints. It drives very smooth and handles much better than I was expecting it to.Overall no complaints you should be rather happy with it. Oh one thing I hate the wooden steering wheel as with all wooden steering wheels they are to slippery. I tried to source an all leather one and they don't make one for the S550.

I have an all leather one on my 2016. I don’t think there’s any difference between the 16 and 17 (am i wrong?)

I love the handling of my CLS63 but it is an amg, I do not expect the S class to be better.
however unless the ride quality is terrible, Im sure I can compromise, I'm interested in having an AWD, havent owned one before. and an S class is more of a cruiser in my opinon anyways

Amgboy916, be a little careful here and be sure to go for a significant test drive of any S-coupe before buying it and really put it to its handling paces to see if you like it. I believe your CLS had the ABC suspension system. The S-Coupe (other than the S65) will handle far, far worse than anything with an ABC system and has terrible body lean in corners. It is not even close to an ABC equipped car (I know because I had the predecessor CL55 with ABC). Also, the AWD drive doesnt add anything in terms of handling in dry locations. So it depends on where you are located as to whether that is of benefit.
Don’t get me wrong, the S-Coupe is a very nice car, all I am saying is that you have to be careful with handling expectations and you cannot base those expectations on how prior MB products handled for you. However if you just want a straight line cruiser then it certainly should fill your bill.

I appreciate the honesty. I definitely should test drive it to get an idea. Thank you for the perspective, since you were also an amg owner we probably have high expectations for handling.
only thing that has kept me from test driving one recently is the fact I lack self control and If I go test drive one I'm afraid I'll probably end up leaving the dealership with an S coupe without even shopping for others or thoroughly inspecting its condition lol

No CLS has ABC. Only the S,SL and CL had ABC options. The CLS has airmatic.

Take your wife with you to the test drive. Does wonders for self control!
Thanks, I use dry food grade silicone which works well too but, the seals are of a newer textured design and shouldnt be making noise espeially from day one.
I hate that it looks too much like a CLA. Or the rest of the Benz family. The CL used to always stand out. It turns heads, but not the same way the CL used to.
Brake dust! Typical German issue.
I want that exhaust to have just a littttttle more growl.

lexnoir, I couldn’t agree more. I had my CL for 10 years and loved every minute. It was a world class GT. I have had my S Coupe for a year and I am bored. Essentially MB took their top of the line, limited production, very unique coupe that used to have all the cutting edge bells and whistles and dumbed it down so that it looks and handles like everything else in the lineup. The only distinguishing feature is the much higher price.
I have been thinking of going to a S65 to address the handling issues but that doesnt address the fact that the car still looks like the C and E class coupes and there is nothing distinguishing about it. So hitting the pause button for the moment.
Glad to know I'm not the only one that feels this way. Before I picked up the car, wife and friend asked to see pics. When I showed them the photos they both said it looks like a regular Benz. In person however, they said you could tell it was something different, but it just doesn't stand out much anymore. That said, I'm still in love with the car. Every time I hear that exhaust growl I smile! I updated my post to include a few more things!
