I have no way of really knowing. But even if they aren't OLEDs still a nice upgrade.

Did you try Benz ninja to code out the errors?

I had no luck coding out the errors. I didn't try BJ, too pricey. I did try several shops, no luck.

I have no idea if this will fix your issue, but might wanna talk to these guys: https://carsystems.com.ua/product/me...rofit-adapter/

Mercteil sells an OEM USDM set of the tailights with the above plug 'n play adapter, citing that it is indeed plug 'n play. IIRC your set is aftermarket, so not sure if the adapter would work. But it isn't expensive so may be worth a try.

OR, you can check out the OEM USD set that Mercteil is discounting. Read more about it here: https://mbworld.org/forums/s63-amg-4...-new-info.html

The carsystems adapter is not plug and play. I have one but have not installed it yet. It requires splicing into the can bus system in the rear trunk BCM and fuse box. It’s no different than splicing regular wires just sounds intimidating. I might do it but have been looking for someone a little more experience to do it in the Houston area. It is cutting stock wires (that can be converted back) but the end result is true OLED tailights.

I actually bought the same adapter 2 years ago and planned to install it myself. But never really had the energy to do it......

FD, I can't imagine that would work for me. But if it's not plug and play (which other comments say it's not) I likely won't bother. But thank you, and I have seen that adapter.

FD, I don’t see where the adapter is cited as “plug and play”. It has to be spliced into the CAN bus system per the installation manual. I believe towards the end of the manual, carsystems says to contact them so they can code out any errors. BJ can do the same coding out of errors. I bet the shop Leicaman used had errors coded out if any came up. I believe it will generate errors. I have talked to a shop here in Houston that is willing to do the adapter install. I’m currently installing the illuminated turbine A/C vents myself and almost done. I will be doing the OEM taillight install down the road shortly and will update everyone with more info when I can.

So I apologize; I had posted what Mercteil had told me. Only after I posted it did I dig into the adapter, and read the same; splicing + calling them for programming it remotely. But at least it's a solution that's advertised as tried & true, ie they'll get it to work, and have already done so before. But you're right; it's not plug 'n play. It's a bit more involved.

Nice job on the A/C vents. I wish I could add door tweeters and a ceiling center speaker in my C217 (convertible) cuz I'm the oddball out; I think the Burmester sound system (and yes I have the high end version) leaves a lot to desire, esp in power/loudness, especially in a convertible. Vs say, the harman/kardon OEM system in the M4, that really has the power to provide adequate sound so you can actually hear while driving at highway speeds with the top down.

The "Burmester" is just not impressive. The Bang & Olufsen in our GLS63...now THAT system is solid.

no worries, just didn’t want you or anyone to go buy the OEM setup thinking it’s plug and play. I turned my system from “3d” to “live” I think and turned the treble down some. Remember each listening device “sound” is independent. You have to change the sound for CD, FM, AUX, etc. individually. Sounds much better I personally think.

I’m not interested in the lighted vents just the replacement vents. Do you have a link to one ones you bought?

So I finally spent some time on the manual for carsystem adapter. The conversion was not terribly difficult. You need to rearrange 2 cables on rear SAM side, do 6 soldering splices for adapter cable, 2 soldering splices for OLED ground, rearrange all the cables on all 4 OLED light plugs, run 4 power lines to 4 OLEDs, and 1 power line to the adapter. $500 in labor sounds on the higher end. Experienced shop should be able to finish in 2h

Post this info so you guys can evaluate the difficulty before pulling the trigger.

It's a trade off between style and sound. The Burmester, even the high-end version in the convertible has fewer speakers and way smaller amp compared to the coupe.

Fair enough. Where is the amp located in the coupe? Wondering if it's interchangeable...

Very easy access. Right next to the sub woofer under the trunk mat

I did the installation this week. Not too difficult, but you need to be very cautious because of the wire modifications. The wire to CAN B bus is THIN as the hair.
