OLED tail light conversion
I just purchased a set of the OLED taillights for MY2017 C217. Waiting on them to show up before ordering the wiring harness adapter. Anyone have any experience with this conversion?

I got them from this seller https://www.ebay.com/itm/266739758816. They are Mercedes OEM new out of box. He has the cheapest "new OEM" 4pc. sets out there. Shipped out of Germany I think. The adapter harness is made by carsystems.com.ua Benz-ninja says carsystems.com.ua is a high-end company he knows of. Waiting to inspect taillights before ordering harness. There are two sellers on Ebay that can get the adapter harness too, but I don't know if the harnesses are the carsystems brand. I think Benz-ninja might have to do some coding for the dash cluster errors after install too. I am shooting for this to be a $1500-$1750 upgrade and if I sell my old pair on Ebay, it might work out as a free/minor cost upgrade.

I was looking at trunk lids on ebay and lots of them say 2015-2021 and look to have the same taillight recess. I believe they are the same, but could be wrong. Guess I will find out.

So it looks like they sell retrofit OLEDs, plug and play. No coding or adapters required. My question is how hard is it to install the lights? Does the bumper have to be dropped?

who sells plug and play? I would be careful of china setups. My lights are OEM and the module is by carsystems.ua Just dropped it off at dealership and seeing if lead tech is willing to install module as side work. It Has to be tapped into the SAM. I have yet to find someone to do this in Houston.

Definitely not OEM so likely Chinese. I'm keeping my original lights in case of premature failure. And I'm using a card that protects me. So short of blowing up my car, I'm OK with it. I've been in contact with someone who has the same lights with no issues hence I'm pulling the trigger based on his feedback. Now back to my original question ... anyone have any install instructions for removing the existing tail lights? Does the bumper have to be dropped? Any instructions on the process. Thanks in advance.

I am in fact in the U.S. to be clear, I'm purchasing from a US-based eBay seller, which doesn't mean it's not Chinese goods, but as I stated, I spoke to an American who bought the same conversion and he said it's plug and play. They did whatever needed to be done to make them plug and play. I have purchased plug and play tail lights (not OLED) for an older Mercedes back in the day, it was an upgrade to LED back then. I had no issues. I'd love to get an answer to my original question if anyone can help.

I found my answer. No removal of the bumper is required. This was confusing to me because I saw several YT videos where they were showing off the retrofitted OLEDs and the car no bumper. Now I suspect they were retrofitting lights and probably doing a general conversion which included rear bumper swap. But I wanted to be sure.

Just curious, what is the reason to go to the trouble of changing the taillights from stock to OELD?

I believe the 18-21 C217/A217 are the only models that came with OLED wafer style tail lights which are very unique. I also think they look great, not that the stocks look bad. What you call trouble, I call a rare modification with hurdles. These low production models are the last of a true flagship V8/V12 coupe by Mercedes in my opinion. Some believe keep it stock, some believe particular mods improve the vehicle and experience. Usually modding drives more knowledge gained of one’s vehicle as well. All in the eye of the owner.

It's the little things that make your car stand out. When I pull up anywhere I get a lot of compliments on my car. I always say if it was bone stock it wouldn't really be noticed. But with my wheels, panamericana (sp) grille, tint, and logo puddle lights it really stands out. People always ask what year it is because it looks like a 2024 but is actually a 2016.

On order. Plug and play. I can send you the link later. Still waiting on mine to arrive. PM me to remind me to send you the link. I'm on the toilet checking email (sounds Trump-ish) but I'm not tweeting. Preparing to take the kids to school. TMI.
