85 500 SEC - regular gas OK?

The owner of this 500SEC (a US version) said it said in the owners manual to use regular gas. But almost every place I have looked, it seems people recommend premium. Which is it?

PREMIUM only.
It is a high performance motor no matter what anyone might say.
You will just kill it early running anything but PREMIUM HIGH TEST.
Fossil fuel oil products also. Not synthetics for oil changes.

Premium yes, but I beg to differ on the lubricant reccomendaiton. I currently use, and have used only synthetic lubricants in my cars, one of which is a 560SEC, and others being even older models. Those that I switched to synthetic after buying used showed a significant improvement in oil pressure, running temperature, fuel economy, valve train noise. Varnish and sludge are no more. Oil analysis has shown a drastic decrease in engine wear.

Agreed too. I had owned a 1986 560 SEL from new until early this year and had the same experience. The only problem is leakage, or sippage from the engine seals.

Happy New Year.

There you go.
Synthetics work well if you can keep it where it belongs, inside of the block, and not on the outside!
Dino also gives you that every 3k look at things.

Not true, I would park any of my cars on the most precious rugs without fear of leaks. Synthetic oil will not create leaks and it offers lubrication and protection dino oil cannot, no matter how often it is changed.

Typically the only time you'll see a leak with synthetic that you didn't with dino oil is on an older engine where a non-detergent dino oil was leaving sediment and sludge plugging leaks.

In any car that has had modern oils run in it and been changed regularly, you shouldn't notice leakage with synthetic.

That being said, your mileage may vary!
