Hi.
This is my first post here, my name is Martin, I'm 29 years old and I drive MB for 12 years, my first one was W123 '81 2.4 D with 5 manaul gear, now (from 2 years) got W126 '85 500 SEL.
I have problem in my W126, yeasterday all lights there where is Speed, fuel meter and clock stop working. I checked all my fuse and looks good. Anyone have some ideas what I can check by myself before I go to mechanic and spent some $
Thank You.
P.S. Sorry for my bad grammar and incorect names of parts, I hope you understand. I'm foreign student which still learning english.

All of them at the same time? Did you check the fuse?

I check fuse. My father which is better in this subcject than me, told me - all fuse looks good, that's why I don't know what's going on.

You may have a ground issue behind the cluster. Here is a link on how to remove it and just check to see if the ground wire is still connected.http://benzguy.piczo.com/replacingda...linkvar=000044

Take them out one by one inspect them and rotate or change them before opening the dash board. It is very unlikely that all have gone bad at once, but is not impossible.

The dimmer switch, or rheostat, is nitorious for going out and taking the dash lights with it. Can rebuild or buy a new one or play with the switch until it turns the lights back on. I would check that first.

Any updates on the subject?
I have an 87 560SEL, the dash lights went out oneday. for a while high beam indicator came on when lights were turned on, after the dash lights went out. (even in low beam). but now high beam indicator doesn't come on without being in the high beam. What could it be? high/low switch? dimmer switch? All the lights on the dash are out, but the shifter indicator light is still on.
Thanks,

I pulled out the cluster and removed the rheostat, checked ok. cleaned terminals, put everything back together. All is working fine now. I guess it was a bad connection in one of the connectors. part number for the rheostat is 993 103 034, revised number is 000 542 35 25. MSRP is about $90, the local dealer wants over $100 for such a simple part. I found a surplus oem on ebay new for $49.99 by a seller name nautictradeinc
