Where to purchase springs?

Hey everyone,

Just wanted some suggestions onto where I should purchase some new springs for my vehicle. I've searched through a few forums with debates on which ones are better (Eibach, H&R, Intrax, B+G), and have decided that all seem relatively reliable and would do the job. I have 19" rims and maybe upgrading to 20's soon, so I would be more looking for performance rather than lowering the stance of the vehicle. I have my Bilstein shocks ready to go with them, so if anyone knows of any websites that sell springs at a good price and ships to Canada I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

well i have not installed my intrax yet so i cannot comment for sure on them but i can tell you where i got them. i only paid $240 plus shipping for my set brand new. I tried to get B+G but they discontinued W140 6-cyl springs, I don't know if they still make V8 springs but you can double check if you want.

H&R will be the roughest ride by far, so if you plan up upgrading to 20" i would get a set of progressive rate springs like Intrax. Hope that helps

i dont think you realize how hard H&Rs will ride, ESPECIALLY on 20s. I have H&R sports on my BMW M3 with bilstein shocks and i would NEVER recommend that for a W140, progressive rates will still give great handling characteristics at the limit while still providing soft enough rides (ESPECIALLY ON 20's).

If you had 18's with some rubber that would be a different story, but not 19-20

agreed with not 20's but 18 and 19 definetly go with h&r compare prices and see how long h&r or intrax have been in business.

Intrax has been around for a long time, so has H&R obviously, that has nothing to do with it. you need to realized what you plan on using the car for, W140 is not a track car, never has been never will, so i dont recommend linear springs like H&R, you want progressive rate springs for a nice supple ride, go intrax or B+G or some other progressive rate sprigns (i hear some eibachs are progressive too but not certain about them.)

Benzito I was actually looking at these sites yesterday for springs on my Merc. I found the cheapest one was www.drivewire.com and they have bases all around USA. Thay have Intrax, B&G, H&R, Eibach for the W140 S320 and above models. Check it out, they have free shipping too. Im here in London (United Kingdom) so they told me shipping is approximately $100 (Why if I sent springs from here to USA it will cost around 40-50 dollarsUS)!!!

Anyway let us know what you decide. Im thinking of going the Intrax or Eibach way, for the progressive spring as opposed to the linear H&R setup. Still not finalised yet as Ive ordered 19" AMG Monoblocks and Im not too sure if there will be any issues if I lower the car by 30mm or 35mm (approx 1.179-1.375 inches). The tires are 275/35/19 for rear and 255/40/19 for the front.
Im think it will be ok but am not sure yet. I gotta wait till they come in 3 weeks.

Thanks SAMM. I actually found that site a few days ago, and think that they might be the best place to purchase them from. Figure I'ma go with the Intrax joints.

Omey, you said that you knew of a place where I could get the intrax springs from. If you could post it or PM me it would be appreciated.

In regards to the debate over which springs are better though, I've done all the research I feel necessary to say that it is all a matter of application and desired effect. If you are looking for a more sportier and race inspired feel, then it seems that Eibach and H&R are the better application for this. If you are looking for more performance and smoother quality ride Intrax and B+G are the ticket. With the Eibach and H&R springs though you have to wait a while longer than the Intrax springs to settle to the lowered stance you require. However, remember what kind of car we all are driving here. No offence to anyone who does, but why would you slam such a beautiful car 2.5-3 inches or so?? The max should really be 1.5" even with stock factory tires. In any case all these manufactures make quality products, it all just depends on preference.

My man BENZITO makes an excellent point. These cars are not to be decked to the tarmac. Anything more than an absolute maximum of around 2ins isnt too good. After all we aint driving SUPRAs OR RX-7s

By the way BENZITO I think you should definately ask OMEYHOMEY for the place he got his Intrax from. He really did well with sourcing the lowest price for them. The difference over www.drivewire.com is very significant and worth waiting for!

Indeed! Good lookin out Omey!

Don't mean to really spark any more debates on which springs are better but what do you think about B+G? That's the only company I can't find too much information about?

I remember reading you said that they were discontinued in a post somewhere, however the same www.drivewire.com website still has them available. I don't know, if I probably call them to order them, I figure they would end up saying they don't carry them anymore ... ah well...
Just gonna cop the Intrax springs and call it quits. I just want to see the results with them and the Bilstein shocks riding on some 19". I'm hoping for a noticable improvement on the ride quality.
