1997 Mercedes S420
A few weeks ago I stopped in at the dealer where my 1997 S420 was first sold so I could go to the parts department to get a valet key made. As I was getting out of the car a salesman came up to me and admired the car and then told me I should trade it in so I could take advantage of all of the new technology on the brand new cars. I suggested to him that they would owe me money if I traded that car for anything they had and he laughed. By the time I got back to my car from the parts department there were three people standing around my car looking at it. One of them was the owner of the dealership. He asked me if he could start it up so I gave him the keys. He started it up and then shut it off, got out of the car and told me I probably had another 500,000 miles to put on that car before I needed to trade it in. I am certain that was not what the salesman wanted to hear just as I am certain it is the reason the owner has been so successful in business - honesty. The car has 275,950 miles on it today. I just smiled at the salesman as I got into my car and left.

Only sell to those who appreciate what you have to offer. The rest don't matter.

Renntech builder!

[QUOTE=EdzBenz;1876144]My current mechanic is an ex AMG builder/mechanic. He's straight from Germany and has years of experience with Mercedes. Maybe its just his German accent, but I value his opinions in our discussions. Anyway, he mentioned to me one day that (in his opinion) there are two engines made by Mercedes that are balanced almost perfectly. They are:
M120
OM606[/QUOTE/]

This was one of the main reasons I absolutely love these cars, is your builder Hartmur Feyhl by chance? Renntech founder, he actually recently rebuilt a 1992 600 SEL. I’m debating the year I should purchase, any help would be greatly appreciated

1998 S320 LWB
Just bought a 98' s320 with 107,000 miles on the clock. Believe it or not, its my daily driver for at least a year while I'm in RN school. Lovely old man in Kansas owned and cared for it. No problems as of right now (1,000 miles in) mechanically. Little electrical stuff here and there. Just going to fix stuff as I come across it. Want to repaint to prevent rust but here in Arkansas that's not too big of an issue. Really love this car. Still gets 19mpg. Does move a little sluggish in my opinion but I honestly don't have anything to compare it to. Replacing the CPS and MAF with a A service Friday. Look forward to have this car for a while.

My'93 V12 is the smoothest running engine I have ever had. At stop lights sometimes I have to check tach to make sure the engine is still running. Yes, perfectly balanced. BTW, 91,000 on my 600SEC.

I purchased the car from the 4th owner at 140k miles so I'm not too sure. The only things I've done during my ownership were tires, brakes, oil changes, air filters, spark plugs and the transmission fluid/filter.

S550 coupe
Mine just passed 50K miles.
My dad bought a few of these new and typically drove them about 100K miles, without any repair and minimal maintenance.
the last one he sold with 175K miles and it started having a few issues but had been a solid car till he sold it.

06' SL65, 96' S500 & 09' S550
96' S500, 235 thousand and it feels like it could go on and on and on. The M119 is a great engine, no oil needed between changes.
