ABS ASR Light

Anybody have this problem...

95 S500

Whenever the brakes are tapped lightly, sometimes my ABS and ASR? lights go on, and the car goes into safety/limp mode.... it runs like this until i turn the car off, and the car resets itself...

If i'm more definitive in my braking at high speeds, its fine... it doesn't trip... but usually happens at slower speeds... (40 mph or less) i'm pretty sure its something electrical... or a sensor or something...

what does the ASR light mean? I was reading on the bmw forums, and a guy had a similar problem, and was told he had a problem with his MAF and it would trigger the ABS/DSC light to come on...

that sound right? any other suggestions of what it could be? thanx guys...

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
On most model if the brake switch

goes bad it will trigger the warnings you have and in some models when they go triggered limp mode will cut power for safety and cruise control will also disengage.Common on w210's and other models.Upgraded brake switch at dealers.about 20 bucks,if common to your model diy should be similar to diy on benzworld.org w210 diy section.
hope it helps you.Seems since it is related to brake pedal use and brake pedal applied pressure that it could be the same issue

i got my brake light switch from the dealer...

I was wondering would you happen to know how to take that carpeted panel off, underneath the dash and steering wheel...

I have taken off the two screws underneath... the two near the parking brake release... and one more inside the vent, facing the door... i was able to loosen everything on the bottom, but it seems to be connected to something at the steering column area.... are there any screws i'm missing? near the center console side? are they clips i have to force out?

i have labeled the places i have removed screws from....

i've searched 4 different forums, google, yahoo... can't find anything on taking the panel off... everyone just says its a PITA, good luck... please let me know if anyone can help me out with this... thanx!

There should be a screw half way between the dash board and the brake pedal. Once you remove the screws and the side vent on the transmission tunnel, remove the vent. Begin pulling the panel down starting from the ouside (door) and working you way to the center of the car. Once you get the first few to pop, use a flashlight to see where the next ones are. The ones losest to the center of the car pull downward like the rest. They are all pretty tight, but that's why you don't get rattles. Let me know how you make out.

i was able to access the brake pedal switch without removing that carpeted panel... i just learned its called a "knee bolster"... i just removed plastic piece, that houses the brake pedal, and there the switch was... thanx for your help!!!
