Soft closing doors?

My S320's doors close like any other normal door. I have no clue what a soft closing or door assist feature feels like. Does my car has it and its not working and how do i figure that out..?

Help!

Door Closing

Just close the door lightly so that the latch feels like it almost catches. The system should pull the door the rest of the way in. The trunk is this way also. The previous owner of my car (S320) had a problem with it not working and replaced the locking system vacuum element for $102. Works fine now.

Doors closing

Is your car an euro one ?
Some euro cars hasn't the doors closing assistance.
Some even hasn't got A/C system or electrical seats!
I saw an S-class without tinted glasses.

Every US model w140 Benz I have driven has had the soft door closing feature. I think it is somewhat of a useless feature because if someone slams the door, it closes no softer than any other door.

I guess if you are a 100 year old person with no strength to close the door then it might be helpful.

Door Closer

I don't know if the assembly looks different, but I do know that the power closing doors was standard equipment on all S 320's imported to the USA, so if your's is not working then it's broken. Looks like you need a trip to an independent MB garage.

I dont think my car has em.

Lots of folks also think that headlight washing system is standard on all W140s in US but mine dosent have that either.

I just think that if i take my car to an MB dealer, they would charge real high just to tell my car dosent have em!

Why meeeee?

I checked in my parts manual and it shows that the only difference between regular and assisted closing is in the Latch, which is inside the door. THe Latch with a closing aid costs $390 while the one w/o costs $139. THE striker and striker plate are the same. THere must be some plumbing that goes to the latch with the closing aid, but my book does not show this

I thought these Pneumatic doors were the most ridiculous things I ever saw when I first bought my car. Having the car for a while now. I don’t think I could ever do with out them. There great for young ones when there sleeping and when you come home at 4 in morning after being out with the guys and don’t want to wake the wife . When ever I’m in any one elses car I always have to double shut the door because im not use to having to slam the door. I even dig the Electric rearview mirror, and side mirrors that get used consistanly.

Soft closing door problem!

Hi

I have a S500, and my softclosing door malfunction sometimes, the door closing stop working one by one (one door at the time) I then take out the fuse for a couple of seconds (Fuse 9 in the back compartment fuse box) and then they start working again. But soon they stop working again, as usual my MB workshop dont give me another solution than replace everything :-) Anyone have a cheaper solution??
