s320 cruise

I recently had a lot of work done on my 1995 s320 engine. new engine wireing loom, spark plug coils/igniters,I forget the correct name, and the dreaded leaking T conector on the firewall. The new coils finaly fixed the rough running problem. I got the done coils done at an independant shop as the Mercedes dealer seemed unable to fix the problem despite outrageous costs.
So last week I drove from Vancouver Canada to Palm Dessert California, about 2000 kilometers. I used the cruise control on the straight and relatively flat sections at about 120 kph. On two occasions the engine suddenly stopped, the srs light came on and no power. The first time I made a "dead stick" landing pulling over to the road side with no power. The car restarted right away. The second time I didn't pull over, I put the shifter in neutral and restarted the engine and continued on. Neadless to say this made the wife very nervous, and she volunteered to drive, not using the cruise control.
Has anone else had this happen, and if so found a fix??

Thanks for the tips on anything S320. That looks like an electronic part.
I've lubricated my throttle cable at both ends, as well as return spring. I even felt a little smug after Toyotas debacle with a computer driven throttle, which will be a great system when the bugs get ironed out.

If you open the throttle actuator unit, you will find a bunch of wire insulators are broken, you could clean and replace it with the new one, I done mind couple of years back and it give me no problem since. (The job is not quite difficult DIY type)

Before that time I done so many "dead stick landing" from this problem which initial focus on the break switch, but it is not.

I replace the whole bunch of them. You may need mil spec. wires or high temperature insulator wire for good measure. I think I have some link that show the details eventhough that is for 600 type, but for 320 it'll be just one control unit while 600 has two (left bank and right bank engine).

impressive

I don't think I have the confidence to try to do this job. It is very involved.
I only have the one car so I can't take it off the road for as long as this would take. I will try everyk thing else before I make a decission.
Thanks for the information.

If the wire insulation is breaking down, you could always try a short term repair by coating your wires with a urethane spray or silicone caulk.
