Disappearing water.

My S600 is loosing water, after topping off the expansion tank, half an hour of driving has the water warning light in the dash coming on already. No visible signs of water leakage.

Filled the expansion tank, then left the car runninng in the driveway yesterday for about 45 mins, checked the expansion tank again, it is was already empty. Wierd thing is, there is no water underneath the car.

Where is the water going?

I dont think so.

If the engine burns that much water in that little time, Im sure the engine would not be running as smoothly as it does. And there would surely be white smoke coming out of the exhaust.

Head gasket

guydewdney is correct these are the classic symptoms of a blown head gasket. There is one theory that an engine will run better with a bit of water in the mix. They used to sell a hydration unit that dropped water into carburetors that may be BS but it didn't hurt.

I had the exact same thing happen to a 351 Ford I was also in denial as it ran perfectly, it's a simple test have a radiator shop put a pressure test on the system. Do it soon because if water gets into the oil you can kiss the engine good-bye.

Good luck

All of the above
I would not mess around either. If it is still losing water after topping it off once I would have it checked out. How many miles are on it?

The car has 40,000 km.

If I was burning 2 liters of water every 15kms, I dont think the engine would be running the way it does now.

the other possibility is a blown heater matritx.

lift all the carpets in the font of the car and check for damp / swimming pools

Water loss

The cooling system on the 140 body is complex, the coolant runs thru the windshield washer tank, thru a line at the base of the windshield, the heater of course, and all 600s had a heater in the console for the rear seat. Search, search there are some deep wells under the carpets
