My buddys 600sel beats my freinds Built WRX

hey i was out tonight racing in some industrial areas with a few of my buiddys , some mercedes and Bmws and subarus., i was riding with my freind with a 04 WRX due to the fact its 32 degrees outsaide and my 97 C280 doesnt like this cold weather, anyways, my freind with a 92 600sel raced my freinds impreza WRX and beat him, the SEL is bone stock, the WRX has, suspension, strut bars, exhaust, chip , intake , BOV,intercooler tubes, uppipe, downpipe, anda boost controller which its running 16psi and hes a very good driver, for some reason i think this is amazing that the stock automatic 600Sel beat my freinds subaru, espeacially a 92!!!, does anyone know how much HP that 6 liter 12 cylinder has though?, my freinds is pushing just over 330 AWD, and it was wet outside!!!, these are the reasons why i only drive Mercedes....

In 92 I think it was a tick over 400. 402 maybe?

AWESOME! PEOPLE SEEM TO MESS WITH THE WRONG CARS! ALSO BEING A YEAR '92 DOES NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE AS LONG AS THE EXAMPLE IS WELL-MAINTAINED

I'd question the skill of your friend in the WRX. A 600 SEL has 389hp and 420 lb-ft. A stock 600 should beat a stock WRX, but if the WRX had 300+hp it should be no contest.

You better hope none of the guys on the WRX forums get a hold of this tread.

the older benz motors actually made more power but were slightly heavier. You know what they say... "Theres no replacement for Displacement"

Having driven both, and I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but even stock WRX w/5-speed should take out a 600SEL from 0-65mph or so.... But 75 and up, 600SEL will leave WRX as if it's standing still......

Also, WRX(as well as STi for that matters) doesn't like aftermarket BOV(non-recirculating ones)..... With a 100% release BOV, WRX actually losing HP....

with the WRX driver skill is requires where as the autobox is 100% consistant everytime. The 600's are only rated at about 5.4 0-60 but you know benz and ratings, they are ALWAYS underrated so who knows it could be high 4's stock.

The 1992 models produced 402HP 428 lb-ft. Wow, i'm amazed about it beating a WRX!

Not W140 600s... Those things are low 6's, 1/4's in low-mid 14's... Not exactly fast by today's standard... The engine sure is smooooth and powerful, but with all the weights(600 can easily top 5200lb, if not more)... And with the mods the WRX has, it can even take on a C32 in 0-60, and maybe even in 1/4 miles... So, if C32 > S600 in acceleration, how can a > C32 WRX got beaten?? Sorry if I burst some one's bubbles, but gotta be realistic here..... As much as I love W140, I still don't believe 600SEL took out a WRX moded like that....

Oh and it's 5995 lb's. Almost as heavy as a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II!! :O Just using the Rolls as an example because I though it would be a lot heavier than the 600SEL.

too many to list
i beleive without a doubt in my mind that the 600SEL could beat the wrx the 600SEL even though has a massive body but the engine puts a stop to for any reason why the WRX should win nothing can compare with the 600SEL v-12 power..

keep in mind guys, Mercedes Benz specs on paper are completely worthless b/c they are always much slower than the actual results for insurance purposes. hell look at the new AMG's they are almost off by a full second in some cases. MB plays it safe where as american manufacturers boost their figures to make their cars look better (Mustang Cobra disaster, had to recall thousands of cars b/c cars made 30-40HP less than claimed).

i think a better comparision would be an M1A1 tank versus a hummer....since the hummer should out accelerate so its kinda odd that the tank won in this situation......sure the 600SEL has tons of HP & Displacement, but the 300hp or so wrx has a better hp/weight ratio and should have won...oh well could have been other factors...such as driving etc

well the most important factor i think is torque not HP, cuz the benz only makes 380ish power but 420 torque, where as the WRX makes much less than 300 torque, also the S600 has long gearing so it shifts much less during the race and a WRX has really short gearing to help the 4banger out so the driver has to shift alot and if he's not a good shifter those precious milliseconds can add up to alot, so i'd beleive it.

True, but again, not so true.... WRX with that much weight has far better power/weight ratio, even with a bad driver should still at least par with 600SEL, an average driver would edge out by half to 1 1/2 car.... A good driver would smoke a stock 600SEL left and right..... But like I said previously, once into triple digit, it's another story..... 600SEL would simply blown WRX away, moded or not, due to WRX's short gear ratio(same thing applies to STi).

Owning both a highly modified WRX (350 + hp/ 450 Nm torque and 12.8 @ 108 mph) and an ML500 I think I can comment on why the S600 won.

With a WRX it is all about the lauch, when I get it right it does 0-60 in 5 seconds, but if I get it wrong and bog down it will take at leat 8 seconds. Where as the ML 500 does a consistant 7.5 seconds, just stomp on the go pedal and it does it every time.

Launch technique is critical to the WRX but not a big engined Benz.
