See the writeup of my installation in my 2000 S500 at http://www.benzworld.org/publications/pub.asp?id=330. Won't be too different from your car. You need a Dension Ice>Link Plus.

Does S command have AUX in? It's pretty neat for command with AUX, you need just one cable, like:

Search the forums with the terms "iPod" and "Aux," and author "Scorchie." This has been discussed a lot on the forums. I don't believe the aux jacks were available on US-model COMANDS in '00 and '01. I don't recall when they became available. A little research will tell you.

A jack can be added, but it involves removing COMAND and soldering the circuit board. Installation of an Ice>Link is much easier, from what I read.

If you don't want to do a little work on a quality integration, you can investigate some crappy solutions such as FM or wired "cassette" units.

Open your glove compartment and check. If it's there just buy the cable.

The link I posted was changed to http://www.benzworld.org/tech.html?id=330 when the site was revamped. Good luck!

Monster cable (and other companies) have an adapter that you plug into your cigarette lighter and then plug your ipod into the cable end, tune your radio to a matching station and play the music on the ipod.

I tried it out and found the sound quality to be lower than usual, but maybe you can try this option and aviod the hassle of retrofitting your sound system.

Good luck.

iPod in the MB

Keyrat is correct! There had to be a way other than doing major surgery to the wiring system under the dash.
I found a Belkin "Car Kit For iPod" "TuneBase FM Transmitter. It has a cradle attached to a flexible adjustable stalk that plugs into your lighter. Works off the FM station. After plugging in, adjusted to an FM station 88.1, adjusted the treble and bass, I was very satisfied.

I have no connections to Belkin.

Passing info along, good luck.

Try: http://eurocarphone.com/. I installed the Bluetooth kit. I am not technical, and it was pretty easy. Thier support is good, too.
