the ones from florida right? i saw and bid on those a while ago. the seller had a phantom bidder jack up the price on me for a lousy $10 more than the starting bid. i got pissed, refused to play his pathetic game and didn't get the lights. so my desire to spite him cost me a lot more; seems a little silly now but i was ticked off.

Source for Upgraded Mirror Lights?

I purchased lights from HK-Plus in Hong Kong - $28.00 for the lights, $18.00 for shipping off ebay. (I think the high shipping cost is to make returns cost more than they are worth - I'm likely going to toss mine in the trash.)

Here is a link for what they look like:

http://www.ult-auto.com/pictures/4/DSC00446.JPG

and

http://www.ult-auto.com/pictures/4/DSC00448.JPG

They don't work. The installation is easy - NOTE: When pushing the retaining clip on the mirror, it has a built in TAB that sort of "pops" and keeps the tab closed so you can slide the housing off, remember to open the tab after you replace the mirror housing to keep the mirror together on the road. Also, they do not use the MB connector, so the connector is on a long piece of thin wire. It is easy to snag, and short. I used a multi-tester to make sure that the wires were not the source of my problems. The wires were fine.

Once installed the right side gave the error message - i.e., the on-board computer thinks the light is burned out. I uninstalled it and tried the left side for good measure - and it did not work at all, would not light up at all.

They look ok once installed - nothing like OEM, but I suppose better than the old style.

Anyway - does anyone have a source for the upgraded lights that is not based in Hong Kong? Like most of you, I like the look of the upgraded mirror on my 2002 CL500, and I've installed the clear side marker lights from ebay, and (sorry) the chrome pieces for the door hande - (hides lots of scratches from the prior owner), and I like the 2002 tail lights, so they stay.

Thanks for any tips!

Those lights look fine to me but maybe you got some bad one's perhaps ? but 99% from over there are very bright and look very good....make sure the two prong connector plugs on your new led's plug in the center two of the four available inputs on the mirror housing. any other configuration a will give car-puter error.

They would be fine - if they worked! I installed them correctly, even left them in for a while to see if something would change. The one side that worked, looked fine - but gave an error on the comptuter. The left side never worked.

The WORST part, however, is the Ebay seller -HK-Plus - in Hong Kong. No reply to emails, so I posted a "negative feedback" item on his ebay store. He posted a retaliatory negative on my ebay account. So, he's dangerous to do business with.

LED mirror lights

I have just upgraded mine with those from hk-plus, paid £14 all-in delivered, fitted and worked perfectly, thanks to all on this forum especially benzodubz for the info + advice, I was sceptical about buying from hk-plus after what I read here...

but thought hey! just give it a go, I'm not disappointed with the result... they really enhance look of my S-class, much better than oem ones fitted before, I disagree with previous comments that they look cheap, because mine certainly don't, incidentally mine were actually mailed from Singapore, so maybe its a new source hk-plus is using... who knows ?

Wow - what a glowing product endorsement, and your first post too! I would offer anyone here the product I purchased from HK-Plus - but I put it in the trash, as it was junk.

Buyer beware!

OK, I finished doing it a couple of days ago. Wished I had the camera with me to document for you guys.

There were 2 sources, I bought the one (forgot name, can look up later) that wasn't from HK not b/c if they were a bad company or anything but the other one was local.

Regarding the fast blinking after plugging it back in. I did a couple of things that were mentioned before and it eventually worked. So try a couple of these combinations:

1. Turn on hazard lights with original blinkers, take them out while they are still blinking, plug in new blinkers.
2. Leave original blinkers in, turn them on, unplug them, then plug new one in.

Make sure the wires don't catch onto anything and tucked away b/c it came apart when I pushed the housings in to close it up. I had to take it out and resolder them.

If you guys have questions, ask away since my memory is still fresh

Obviously, it's a problem with it not being sealed properly.

You can try to heat it (hair dryer?) to get out all the moisture and maybe add some clear silicone around it?
Mine still new so haven't experienced it.

wow i just got these in the mail yesterday and installed them, i immediately took them out afterward, and im pursuing a refund. these aftermarket strips that are going around on ebay and online shops are just pathetic. they look cheap, and dont even match how the oem ones look like (trust me). i dont know how you can put these on your "Mercedes Benz".

Anyway, is it possible to mod the housing and 03+ oem side mirrors to the 00-02 body without changing the entire assembly? i read previously that someone had done it to their cl on this thread. Any links or contacts for this would be great. oem is really the only way to go

Trust me. Not all product out there is obviously going to be of the same quality. I bought mine almost 3 years ago and are exact reps to oem and are aftermarket. You bought one set from one company ? so to generalize that they are all bad from every vendor is ridiculous, buyer beware etc.etc.

i wasn't generalizing. Ive seriously looked up almost every side blinker the internet has to offer for fitment of the 00-02 w220 chassis. each picture looks just about exactly the same as the other, except maybe the way the circuit in the back is mounted. Sure they come from different companies, but ultimately they are all made in the same factory, probably even from the same manufacturing factory. Im not hating or meaning to bag on everyone who did this mod, but im just stating my opinion after receiving a pair i got off ebay for ($37 shipped, the average price these go for). And also i highly doubt yours are exact replicas of the OEM ones. judging from the pics you posted in the beginning of this thread, I recieved the exact same ones as you.

here are pics of OEM 03+ side blinkers. look at yours and tell me yours are the same again..

higher quality look, with obvious difference in detail

the spirals are cleaner looking, and cave down more. aftermarket seems flatter

chrome arches cave downward like a U, aftermarket ones are like arches, an upside down U.

Wow ! Those are night and day difference .. I have had many people come up to my car and say, "those are not OEM blinker lights" .. They do look the same unless your standing there with a magnifying glass ? Talk about picky ? Seriously, this is an inexpensive mod that looks very good with 90% of the people here who have done it, very happy including myself. I take offense to your "just pathetic statement". Enough said.

I just had to make my first post and bash the trolling!

This thread was about how to replace the blinkers, not what kind to buy. Big THANKS to benznodubz for posting this - I replaced my taillights and headlight, but the blinkers left in the box 'couse had no idea how to open to mirror. Now I will go and give it a shot

P.S. Anyhting looks better then the stock 00-02.

I am not sure if the mirror housing for the W215 CL is different from the S class. It shouldn't. However...

I followed the instruction carefully and tried to install my newly acquired aftermarket lights. The problem is, even after carefully prying the metal clip up inside my driver side mirror, the housing would not come off. Period.

No matter how hard I tried to slide off the mirror housing, it simply would not move an inch. I even had the mirror positioned inwardly as directed. It still wouldn’t come off. I was afraid to break something so I gave up and moved the metal clip back in its place.

Here's comes the problem. My driver side electric mirror glass is now not moving smoothly at all. When I tilt up the mirror or move it to the right side, the motor would not turn smooth and it seems as if it would catch itself jammed up just slightly before it moves further again.

I did push everything back in place and try to apply equal pressure on the surface of the mirror glass to make sure that it's intact to the motor. However, the problem persists.

Does anyone know what I can do to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Jon

I did the switch on my CL500 and had similar problems. As for removing the mirror housing, once the clip is properly opened, it is necessary to move the mirror into a position so it allows the housing to be removed. If the mirror is not in exactly the correct position, the housing will not move - and that is exactly what appears to have happened to you. I spent some time moving the mirror around until it was just right, and the housing slid right off.

As for your second problem - evidently you did not put everything back into place. There are no loose wires in the mix (until you install the aftermarket lights, and when installing those great care must be taken to make sure you do not pinch or damage the wires), so it is likely that your mirror assembly is still not properly seated. This happened to me, and in fact while driving down the road the entire housing sort of moved and was loose - telling me I'd screwed up.

I'd pop the clip and work the mirror around until the housing slips off, install your aftermarket lights, and then put it all back together again.

No, it is the same.

See that silver colored metal clip at the bottom of the housing in this pic? The top part of that clip needs to pushed down(with a flat head screwdriver) to slide off the housing, and make sure the mirror is in a positon so the housing slides off past it. (picture is of Al's car)
