How to find leak in airmatic?

How to find leak in airmatic?
Anybody know some ways to find a leak in the airmatic system at home? How does the Benz dealer do it? Any simple ways?

First place to check is the tops of the front struts. Look under the hood and find the tops of them where the air lines go in and see if there are cracks. There is actually a bulletin out for a repair kit for the tops since they are the most common leak. If you dont want to attempt the repair, you can replace the fronts altogther. Plus this will assure its fixed since they sometimes leak on the sides of them as well. I have replaced about 20 front struts and never had a rear strut leak so its more likely its the front.

Unfortunatly I know they arent cheap but I am not sure exactly how much. I havent priced a set in a little while and the prices fluctuate. Just call up the parts dept at your local dealer and ask for a price quote on the struts. The labor is going to be a little different at other dealers as well but it should be in the area of 2 hours or so to replace them at whatever their labor rate is.

I had exactly the problem that MBtech1 described; the top replacement was approximately $500, parts & labor. As he said, labor costs may vary, but I was charged for 2 hours.

When you jack the car up on one side and the shock makes a hissing noise does that mean you have a leak or is it venting?
It always scares me after oil changes when the car is sitting on the ground.

When you hear the hissing sound, find where it is coming from. If its coming from the top of the struts, its leaking there and you will probably see small cracks in the plastic around where the airline goes in. If its coming from the boots on the body of the struts, then you will need to replace them because there is no repair for a leak in that area as of now. If the noise is coming from behind the passenger side bumper, you are most likely ok because thats where the pump and valve block are and it can vent off air.

ive decided the car has no leak...i raised the suspension and let it sit overnight and when i came back it was fine. a little lower but not much at all. that and the fact i let the car run about 45 mins and its pump came on once. there are no cracks either. to be honest it all looks new.
